safet, Yes, pdls have managed to put information on credit reports. several members have posted this. They disputed it with the credit reporting agancies and it was removed. It is a pain in the butt however it can be done.

What they will most likely do is turn you over to a "collection agency". The "collection agency" will report you to the credit bureaus. Lovely, isn't it? You can send a debt validation letter to the "collection agency" if they actually send you something telling you they are collecting a debt. Love to see them validate an illegal debt. However, some will just report you. Check your credit reports. You can dispute the HELL out of it and get it removed. It's a fight (just like fighting with the pdls) but it CAN be done!
Call from Ameriloan
Got a call from those them today, stating that they are going to turn it over to a 3rd party collection agency. I spoke with Amber Daniel, she claims she spoke with Georgr? from the NC Attorney General's office. She stated because the loan was taken out in OK, they don't abide by NC rules and they will pursue it relentlessly. When I asked her for the name of the person so I could look it up, she wouldn't give it to me. So, I called the NC att office and spoke with someone. He said they are illegal in NC but they can pursue you because it was done over the internet. He would not go into details. I thought I remember someone talking about this incident about the NC att office stating that you don't have to pay. Help Cannr, gouda all you guys.
Thanks

You go by your state laws, not theirs. they of course will say that to scare you into paying. It is not true. Your state lawsa are what matters.

Isn't there only two states where "as long as the PDl is registered somewhere then they can go by the laws in that state."? But you aren't in one of them, so yes the laws in your state are what matters. You keep telling them that, be firm, be strong, don't let them intimidate you!
And check your credit report. When you get notice from a collection agency send the dispute letter, there is some wording when dealing with them that you have to be careful of so search and read up about dealing with CAs.... If they can't validate the debt and you find it on your credit report then have those copies of your validation letter along with the return receipt from when you sent them to the CA, and you'll probably have to use those to help get it off your credit report (proving they haven't validated the debt and thus must remove it).

sfate, I'm going to assume what your AG was telling you regarding "they can pursue you" was his way of saying "Yeah, they can turn you over to collections." His advise wasn't very helpful, was it? They are illegal in your state. If they turn you over to a collection agency, once you get notification from the collection agency, slap a debt validation letter on them as soon as you can. I like to state in mine "I'm sorry you purchased an illegal debt." Just my thrill. But they would have to validate the debt, which they most likely won't be able to do. If they do report you to the credit bureaus (and it would be the collection agency), you dispute the HELL out of it with the credit bureaus and also with the collection agency and you also file complaints with every agency regarding this collection agency doing this. I had to do it. It was deleted from my credit report. So, if they get stupid and do this, you can have it removed. It's just a pain in the butt.
