AMO Recoveries out of Norcross, Ga sent me a letter saying that I needed to come clear on a $2583.84 debt from 1995. They say I didn't file taxes that year. I advised the agent that during that time I was going through hard times and wasn't sure if I filed or not. The letter stated that if I didn't notify them within 30 days, the debt would be assumed valid. I did however recover a W2 from that year and it showed I payed 560.00 into State taxes that year... what's going on. what can I do to get these people off my back.

AMO does not send out invoices or statements on any of their collections they are like snakes in the grass but boy when they get your checks they sure run to the bank with their 29.999999% intrest which should be if not illegal as all heck and have never heard of unpaid taxes going to collections

neither have i but why are you esponding to a thread three plus years old?please explain it to me.

From my personal experience AMO Recoveries ignores proper requests under the Fair Debt Collection Act. They are contracted in my state for the Dept of Revenue. They are still required to comply with state and federal consumer protection laws. The trick they are trying to use is when I dispute the claim and ask for verification and a detail of what the amount it, I receive no reply ever. They are required to within 30 days. Instead they create a new account number and reference number for the claimed amount and keep sending letters. This refreshing of the debt or reassigning it is another violation of the FDCA
