Hi,
There is some debt collector by the name of "Michael Brown" who is calling from 800-214-7840 and essentially making terroristic threats, even telling one individual that he is "going to take their children from them".

WHOEVER this is (and who he is working for), needs to
be tracked down and prosecuted to the FULLEST extent of the law. If you have any information as to who he/they are, please post it here.

I didn't talk to him. There are numerous complaints about this guy on the internet, and I was just trying to track down who he works for.

When I first called I was stunned by his attitude. I said I had received a meesage from him but could not make out anything, but the number. He was really rude and raised his voice at me and said, " I always leave a full name and my direct 800 toll free number." He said do not call and waste my time it is too early and I am way too busy." I told him that he shouldn't be so rude to people so early in the morning either. That I called (lying) obviously by mistake that he had no right to jump down my throat. He told me that I do not realize the type of position he is in. I told him I did not care what position that he was in and that he is still a jerk for being rude for even having the audacity to treat people the way he does no matter his job. he hung up on me and I called him back. I immediatly started talking and told him that no matter his position and no matter what his job was whether that be a collection agent or not that he will one day have a judgement against him and he will have to face all the heartache he may or may not have caused. ---- (side note I could not help but read on other posts how depressed people get over this one individual and it .... pissed me off to be honest and I do not care how much someone paid me he is really cruel) Anyway he asked how I got his number and I told him the lie and he said no you did not you got it from a website. I said really why would anyone want to give your number away...(sarcasticly) He hung up on me again and I called back about 45 minutes later. He told me how busy he was and that he did not want to deal with such stupidity and that I was a waste of time. I just told him that if he did or did not read such websites about him that he would know how much of a jerk people think of him and that I wonder with every debt that gets paid does the company he work for give him a prayer or two that God would have mercy on his soul. He said he did not believe in such nonsense and that he enjoys all the heartache he brings and I told him great it is a good thing I am not in a third party state and I said thank you for the information to provide to the BBB ( but I meant the FCC or whomever can get these type of people out of there.)

I read another posting about this guy on yahoo questions and someone actually felt like they should end their life over the grief this Michael guy caused. I realize my behavior was probably irrational, but it really really hurts my heart that someone could inflict such harmful words to make anyone feel like life is not worth living. The conversation probably will never make a difference in his life as he is so callus and cruel, but I felt it on my heart to do the above. Anyone, I hope I did not upset anyone!!

I got a call from this guy stating I had 24 hours to call him back or he would contact me at my place of business. AND he said I would have to appear (no place mentioned) because it was the right of my client in this state (TX). I called back and got an answering machine. I have no idea what this is about. Should I also contact the FTC and if so where on their site do I go.

If this is the same guy at CRS, Dallas TX - his name is JON.

I just had a horrible encounter with him. I am reporting him to every agency I can! He lied. He also told me the company that he was collecting for would NOT speak to me. He was wrong! I called the company and the debt has been settled. I have NEVER been treated so rudely!!

Have they sent you anything in writing? If they have sent you a dunning letter, respond with a DV letter. State that any violation of the fdcpa and you will file a claim against their surety bond posted with the TX SOS:

Is it just "Michael Brown" or CRS....'cause I'm dealing with them now and they are not willing to work with me and threatens to give the case back to the originial owner (HFC) and let them take the next step of collections. Thanks for any info.

my file number is 2814155 and is being handled by crs rep. Lana (800-214-7801 ext#1108) who has been fantastic and cooperative with my monthly payments and settlement agreement,and once it came up to the two final payments of $800 (agreement was 6 payments of $800 for a total of $4,800 for the account to be settled in full and removed from my credit)i decided to take the initiative and pay it off, so i contacted lana, and she advised if i wanted a letter that states the debt has been satisfied i would have to western union wire the money to them($1,600). So i did, so i did and followed up with lana and she had her supervisor tony vidal sign off on the letter and faxed/mailed to me. Once i received the letter i reviewed and noticed that it stated my account would be updated as satisfied once funds were cleared, confused i called lana and she stated that her supervisor did not want to update the letter, and i was baffled b/c i paid the extra money to wire transfer funds to them to show that i was serious about my obligation to pay and to guarantee crs received the funds so that i can receive a letter stating that my file has been satisfied and closed. So i contacted mr tony vidal in hopes of some clarification, and only found his voice mail to be my point of contact (his extension is #1106)...so i gave it a couple of days and contacted crs on 05/06 (three days later since my payment) to hopefully have my updated letter sent to me so i can then forward it to the three major credit bureaus (which i have experience in legal collection and know that i have the right to send a letter myself to show proof the debt was satisfied,since i understand the agency has 90 days to updated their records and report to the credit bureaus)i spoke to lana again and was placed on hold, then the phone was abruptly answered by a mans voice stating what i wanted, not knowing who i was talking to, i began to explain the situation, and mentioned that i had been waiting for it so i can update the credit bureaus and he stated that his superior felt the letter was adequate and that i should be satisfied with it and use my receipt as proof of payment to the credit bureaus. But as we all know the credit bureaus dont consider that sufficient unless its a letter from the collection agency saying so (from my legal collection experience), so i told the individual that i had left voice mails for mr tony vidal and that he hadnt responded to me and my request, and that i needed to speak to somebody that would go above and beyond, even if that meant his suoerior, and then finally thats when the voice identified himself as mr. Vidal, and that his superior is busy and will handle it if he wants to...i then asked for a time and date for a return call b/c i want to be ready for it...he said sometime in the afternoon....i then asked for an extension or direct line...he stated he doesnt give it out and thats final...i said ok spell his name for me so i can know who i can ask for, if i dont receive a call... He sighed and screamed that he told me and to deal with it and hung up....i called back to mr vidals extension and asked why he lashed out and he said b/c he has things to do and doesnt have time for me....i asked if i was not a customer? Did i not complete my end of the bargain? And he said my parade of calls wont help my cause and that what i have is all im entitled to..and hung up again...i called my rep. Lana and asked her what i had done so mr vidal could get so i-rate w/ me, and she said she didnt know and apologized, b/c she agreed i deserved a letter stating my payment cleared since it was done through western union. Im waiing on my letter to this day....
