Yep, thanks to those wonderful storms I have to work overtime :evil: :evil: We got so many re-orders for snowblowers that we now cannot keep up. So it's long hours during the week plus weekends. I am sooooo looking forward to the shutdown the week of Christmas :) They asked me if I wanted to work that week (well not Mon. or Tues.) I told them hell no I am not working lol.

There are so may weather issues across the country right now...from one coast to the other as well as a dramatic increase in traffic. Please everyone travel safe...weather issues and general travel.

Not looking forward to this weekend. Maybe big storm approaching the midwest! I am lucky though do not have to shovel snow or put out salt...the benefits of living in an apartment! For those who do have to shovel...take it easy on that job!

Seven inches of snow here in about five hours. Made for a real entertaining day at work, driving in that slop. Home now, safe and none the worse for wear.

Seven inches while you were at work? Lord. My biggest fear is being trapped at work! I wouldn't mind being trapped at home! But work?!? :shock: I do believe I would tunnel my way home!

My work vehicle has 4 powered wheels, brand new Michelin mud/snows all around, and it weighs 10,000+ pounds. Trust me, I ain't gonna get trapped at work. :)

Isn't this snow fabulous!!! I am not sure where you are, but the snow we got is perfect skiing snow.

Cannr, I am with you I can not imagine being trapped at my job. It would be hell on earth. :? And waterbug I love snow too...just not so much I can not get home. :lol:

I suppose what we got it great for skiing. I wouldn't know, personally. I'm just a southerner, living in exile in Vermont. I suspect that if Texans were meant to ski, bullsh*t would be white.

Every year about this time, we get the first real snowfall. And every year about this same time, we get a rash of vehicle accidents like you wouldn't believe. This afternoon at work, I saw over a dozen car wrecks. About half of them were one-vehicle accidents where somebody had failed to negotiate a curve or similar feature in the snow, and wound up in somebody else's front yard or up against a tree for their lapse. Most of the rest were rear-enders. [Ya just can't stop on a dime in the slop...] Seven of those accidents involved at least one vehicle with license plates from states like CT, NJ, or FL.

Our state got hit really bad Sunday- President declared our whole state a disaster. I have been at a shelter for over three days-came home last night. We had 5 huge limbs come through our roof and the 3 trees that were over 40 years old ,in our yard, are almost completely gone. Much of the state still without power- no groceries in stores and the worse part- we have a major snow storm coming in tonight- the Govenor said that it would cause more problems because it's a wet snow :twisted: don't know how long I will be on today-killing time before our adjuster comes, but have missed the forums and my friends--be safe everyone..Karen

Bossy, I am sorry to hear about that. We are going to get hit again this weekend. I think it is your way tonight and tomorrow and working its way to my area Saturday night through Monday.

I was in that storm I spent a 1/2 an hour with my car running to defrost the thick ice stuck on it and we are suppose to get more snow tonight, yuk, hate it.

What I can't believe are the idiots out driving around like it is a summer day and then get into accidents...we had like 120 something Tuesday where the police department was just telling everyone without serious injuries to exchange information with each other. Crazy

My husband just came home from work at noon in order to go back to work at 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. for snow removal as he works for the state dept of roads...he's already been working continously throughout this crazy weather.

I just came from the grocery store. People are stocking up like the end of the world is coming. It certainly feels like it. The temperature dropped about 25 degrees in the last hour.

bossy I cant imagine ever in my lifetime having to live in a shelter and wish you only the best!! God Speed!

I have to go shopping today... Nothing special, just routine groceries, paper stuff, and like that. I'm not looking forward to it, because the stores are gonna be a madhouse. We're supposed to get a nor'easter tomorrow into Monday. Real doom-n'-gloom stuff, according to the weather service.

I make a point to keep enough stuff on hand that we could go a week or ten days before we started feeling pinched, but I really don't want to dip into that reserve. We also have alternative measures available for cooking and lighting in case the power goes out. Still, I gotta at least go get milk for the kids, bread, etc.... I get the feeling this trip is gonna be no fun at all.

It's starting to snow here...we are expecting 6-10 inches with strong winds tomorrow. Possibly blizzard conditions. Me...I have a cold and I am not going anywhere the traffic by my place is bad right now and the grocery stores are getting hit hard. Best of luck to all and keep safe.

Thanks guys- our adjuster is coming Monday- I am hoping the ceilings don't fall in before then :lol: We are suppossed to get the snow today, but thank God, I think it's only going to be a little bit- not like they said--this poor town and state can't take much more! There are so many, yet, to even get power.

I came home early from work yesterday with a fever...and slept most the rest of the day away. I am off work till Tuesday now...It has been snowing hard here since about 8AM...I will need to make it to the store...before the second wave hits tonight.

Hope you are feeling better Mornng!! Unc- the problem was- there were also no generators, batteries,nothing for about 70 miles- every county in our state was hit hard!!

I did find one generator someone was price gouging out of his truck--for $1500. :shock:

Ya know, Bossy... Tha sad thing is, somebody probably gave him $1500 for it. There's always somebody ready to make a profit grom his fellow man's distress. What state are you in, anyway?

Early summer's a good time to look for a generator. Kind of like buying an air conditioner in the fall. The demand is usually less, so the prices tend to be lower. For small gnerators, I hear Honda makes a good unit for the price. For more serious equipment, I can't say enough good things about Kohler. I had a Kohler 30 kW unit when I lived in Wyoming, and loved it. We lived in a little-bitty town about 60 miles from the nearest WalMart and such, and our power was subject to the vagaries of winter winds, ice storms, and the like. I eventually bought the generator, and built a coal stove for the house, to be as problem-free as I could.

That's where I got into the habit of keeping stuff on hand, too. We kept enough stuff on hand to get us by for a month or more. Everything from TP to dog food. That was all back in the days pre-ex-wife, but old habits die hard. We live in the large town in the area now. In an apartment, no less, so there goes the generator and all that. Just as well, 'cause the ex got what I had and I can't afford to replace it. Yet... Doesn't keep me from trying to keep the freezer and cupboards full, though. And we probably have more than the usual complement of flashlights and stuff, too. We also keep a couple of Coleman lanterns in the place, and a Coleman camp stove, along with several cans of propane. In extremis, I also have a propane heater that's capable of carrying one floor of the place, and I can run it off of the big tank on the grill out back if I need to.

We had a power outtage last fall where the juice was off for about ten hours due to a thunderstorm. Everybody else in this complex either went somewhere else or sat around a candle waiting. We went on pretty much as usual... Playing games and reading stories with the kids, hot meals, all like that.

It doesn't have to be an expensive proposition to get prepared. All it takes is a decision not to become a victim of circumstance, and a little creative thinking.

Hi all...

My 16 yr old is outside shoveling our driveway clear of the 12+ inches that fell between last night and this afternoon. The storm blew out here in Michigan earlier than expected, so we lucked out - only 12+ inches, rather than the 18 inches we were expecting. I guess only a snowbird like me can appreciate 12" of snow as a "good" thing. LOL

At least you have a teenager to run the shovel. Erik [our oldest] will be seven next month. He gives it his best shot, but he just ain't big enough to do much. Great kid, though!

unclewulf - my teen actually LIKES to shovel! He's a great kid. :-) The 19 and 10-year-olds don't much care for it, but the 16-yr-old makes up for it.

Unk-live in Oklahoma. We learned to stay prepared from the tornadoes we get-have a "Storm Sack" :lol: have Coleman lanterns, candles, flashlights,etc. Also have a pantry of stuff you can open up,canned goods, water etc. Only thing we didn't have was a generator- will be getting one when they are on sale! Mom has to be somewhere away from flames and with electric for her oxygen, otherwise I would have stayed.

SueBee- was just wondering where you were and if things are going better!! We were suppossed to get the snow, but didn't. Pm me sometime, I have missed you!!..Karen
