I thought I would beat Volley out of the gate on this.
Growing up in NJ my Father was primarily Irish and my mother was mostly Dutch. At midnight on New years eve they would eat pickled herring and usually have roast pork of fresh ham on New Years Day. My tradition has remained the same but more Champagne is consumed on the Eve and mimosas and bloody Marys are added to the day one mix. New Years Eve is also my birthday so I have a tendency to celebrate double.
What are your New years traditions? I know some people eat cabbage as a sign of cash and in the South its Hoppin' John in some places. By the way pickled herring used to taste good and now it tastes like sour slimy old fish chunks or the bait they could not sell so they pickled it. What happened?

My kids and I always have a little mini-feast of the things we can't normally have during the year...shrimp, maybe some king crab legs (just a few!), a whole spread of snacky type things like summer sausage & cheese cubes and crackers, chips & dip, fruit kabobs, etc. Stuff we can't normally afford to keep a lot of around the house. Sometimes we invite family or friends over, but usually it's just us!

We used to have parties with our friends. We started it out. We had a huge party at our house one year then someone else would host the party. It went around a couple of times then we all got cabins in the same area so now (if there is enough snow) we will go and take the snowmobiles around to all the different parties. I will not drink while driving mine. That is a complete no no for me. We have this one road and it has a sign that shows a curve but many people (cars and snowmobiles) after drinking take the curve too fast and 2 years ago someone died after missing the curve and hit a tree. So now there is to be no drinking and driving. Tha has to wait or you will leave your sled there and ride with someone else.

But anyway we start the night out with a whole stuffed tenderloin cooked over the fire pit in the backyard at the cabin. Then I make roasted potatoes and a veggi. We also have a nice green salad. Then we go riding (most of us want to take a nap first lol )

Then when we are done people come back to our cabin for snacks and drinks. We will have venison sausage and asst. cheese. The rest of my Christmas candy, chips and dips. So we are all loaded up, the fridge is full and the cabinets are full of Captin, Kesslers, vodka, teq. and Marg. mix yummy :) So this way I can drink some and enjoy and I won't have to worry about trying to get home. Usually everybody finds a place to crash at our cabin. I will only have about 2 drinks, because after my mom passed away in Dec. 2001 I turned to drinking. I drank and drank for a couple months then got myself some help and now I just don't like the taste of it much. So a drink here and there is enough for me. Plus I get migraines so I don't need a hang over on top of one of those lol.

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year :)

Mine? Just watching the ball drop in Times Square on TV. It's always a bit of a let down though because I know it's just a replay. I've often wondered why each time zone doesn't have it's own such event. Chicago, say, droping a ball for Central Time. Denver for Mountain Time, and LA or San Francisco for Pacific.

Being from New England we love to have lobster. But I????????m starting to feel sorry for the lobster. The population is really getting fished out. Those poor crustaceans!

Then again the lobsterman that bust butts everyday and are still making less then they were 3 years ago because of the price of gas. If I boycott the lobster I????????ll be taking food out of their families mouths.

Oh what the heck???????Lobster it is, I also have some shrimp in the freezer and of course Champaign. My oldest son is having he girlfriend visit for Oh. And I know the two of them hate seafood. So maybe we????????ll just make them some burgers
