It was Christmas Eve and my debit card had a balance of zero. I needed paper towels and coffee and other necessities. I also would have liked a nice bottle of wine to go with dinner which consisted of a roast chicken and sweet potatoes because a Turkey was not within budget. Here I was going through a box of old store receipts hoping to find a buck or two mixed in with them because I know my own pocket disorganization. Sure enough I came up with six bucks. Enough for the coffee and towels.
You have no idea how much I wanted the day before to go on line and take out a payday loan. It would be the difference btween a chicken and a standing rib roast. A bottle of Pinot Noir or a can of Steel Reserve. I chose to forfeit the Pinot and drank the beer. Tomorrow I get paid and guess what, I get it all. Nobody has my account info. I felt that I had a Jones going on that day like a mainliner. But I beat it. This weekend I will have my Pinot and whatever and I will offer a toast to myself for not caving in. I swear that this year or any other will never see me that far down again!

That is what you call having frozen hands and trying to type with gloves on. 8)

Actually I was just testing you all to see if you could read what I wrote. LOL

right now my desk is in the shop area and it is sitting right beside some bay doors and it gets pretty chilly there. My office has been painted and the floors were being cleaned and I am waiting for better office furniture to come down from the main shop area, so....

Wow, what a great story--and something we all can DEFINATELY relate to!! They make it so easy, don't they? Walk in the PDL store and walk out with cash in minutes. But nobody tells you it's making a deal with the devil. Now see, if it was last year, you would've shaken hands with Lucifer, but look how far you've come! I'm proud of you!

I know the feeling that you get when you're finally out of the payday circle; in my case, sad to say, my credit cards, etc., fell behind, but I'm working on getting THAT straightened out now. "Frogpatch," I'm with you, this is gonna be a whole new year for me, as well!

Oh, around here, there are a lot of banks that charge you to check the balance on your account if you do not use one of their ATMS. Bad part is, sometimes there isn't one of their ATMS around to check it, depending on where you are at. Another way for banks to make money, I guess.

Froggy ~ it feels good to get your whole paycheck, doesn't it? Happy for ya!!!

Yeah, I was shopping and kept checking to make sure I had enough in the stores ATM. I know they charge to withdraw but there was no warning or anything when I checked my balance. I did the same in the 7-11. I was doing this so I would not overdraw the account. The charges did not show until the next business day which was Wednesday. If I go to the branch I can probably recover most of it.

None of the machines that we used ever told us there was a fee for checking the balance. Actually I don't think the bank that ownes the machine charges you anything just to inquire or it would say so, it is your own bank that charges you and there isn't anything telling you so. We were never when we opened out account that even if we inquired on our account there would be a fee. We didn't know for until we checked our account, and we were shocked.
