Our story is really quite simple, doesn't include any major sobs, just a lot of stupid mistakes. We have been married for 6 years. When we met, I was a single mom, student with good to very good credit, he was a bachelor with good credit. We got married, got pregnant, I quit school to stay home. Then we both got good jobs, bought our first home, a fixer upper, and got pregnant again. We both quit, me to stay home again, and him to go back to school. Then we did some job hopping, both went back to school, got pregnant again... so here we are, 6 years later. 4 wonderful children, no degrees, working our way out of the debt we created as we both tried to get through school. We realized something had to be done when our house got forclosed on. So we lost the house and moved into my mother-in-law's old home when they bought a newer one. Now we are both working 60 hours a week and buckling down to get out from under about 40,000 in debt, not including student loans. I do daycare from home and he works as a CNA, and hopes to be a nursing student again soon. With both of us working and me being able to work from home, we are able to put a good thousand a month towards this debt and hope to be debt free in 18 months. We have not had a credit card in almost 2 years, and have managed without one. Thank God for the debit card system so I can shop online. We don't have a mortgage, but do have 2 vehicle loans. Thank God for small town banks that go off your history with them and not your credit report. Anyway, it's a hard decision we have made, we considered bankruptcy for a long time. The long hours make us both tired and cranky sometimes, but we have paid off several debtors already and that keeps us going.

Even though it sounds as if you have had a bumpy road, it sounds also like you guys are on the right track and no what you need to do to fix your credit and get out of debt. You are doing the best for your 4 children, and that is the most important thing. I'm glad you found this board, it's nice to have people to talk to that understands credit problems and direct you in the right direction when things go wrong.
