HELP!!!! My husbands wages have been garnished and we now cannot make our monthly bills, anyone have any ideas on how to stop these so we can make a payment to them that we can afford??? I already talked to the collection agency and they refuse to stop it even though with this we have to choose between heat and food. If anyone has ANY ideas, please help me!!!!

Is the garnishment a result of court proceedings, or is it a voluntary wage assignment you signed?

If the CA has been to court and obtained a judgment against you, then chances are you can't do much to stop this garnishment. If you weren't served properly, then you might have a grounds to vacate the judgment; but you should probably consult an attorney if you want to try to reverse a court order.

If this is a voluntary wage assignment (a form that you signed allowing them to take part of your wages), then you can revoke it simply by writing a letter to that effect.

Ok, take a deep breath and calm down. There are some questions I need to ask you to help get this sorted out. (it may be easier than you think)
1. What is the name of the collection agency?
2. What type of debt is it?
3. When was the last time you made a payment on this debt?
4. What state do you live in?
