Things were going so well...Then it happened, Had an emergency car repair that cost me $300, now I am stuck with no money for formual or diapers for 2 more weeks....I think I am going to have to go to Checksmart and get an advance and I really REALLY really REALLY do not want to do that. That other shoe always has to drop...

Good to see you Leah- but am sorry about your problems. Hope the baby is doing well..As far as the formula and diapers-any church in our area, as well as some local helping agencies won't let your baby go without! We live in a very small town, and we have some that do that--also the next town over is bigger. Anything would be better than getting in that awful cycle again.

Maybe a friend or relative could loan you the money until you get on your feet? Just some suggestions.

Contact your local health department- I was there to get my flu shot, and noticed they had flyers for people that needed assistance and numbers of those that would help

Good Luck--let me know what happens--hang in there sweetie!!..karen

Oh, Leah. I am so sorry. I know the feeling all too well. I swear, I've dragged my a$$ to a friend's GIRLFRIEND and borrowed money. Talk about feeling like a low life! But at least she let me make her payments when I could until it was paid off. It sucks, but I thought it was a hell of a lot better to stick my tail between my legs and knock on her door. Whichever choice you make, you do what works best for you. We are behind you no matter what you do.

Oh Leah I am sorry to hear about this. You know if I had any extra I would send it your way. You do what you need to do, but remember what happened the last time, and only take what you need and what you can pay back without rolling over. But see if you can get some assistance some where else first. I wish you the best.

Now this thread title reminds me of Britney Spears :)) Isn't that the title of one of her songs? Leah, I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles and hope things are better soon.
But this leads to another question. What kind of loan package could someone get out there that's as short-term as a PDL, but doesn't charge ungodly amounts of interest like a PDL?

I agree with everyone else. See what is out there in the way of assistance before you go back to those a**holes. I have gotten caught in the trap of having them all paid off and then something happens and would use them again only to get sucked back in. Whatever you have to do though do for your baby. Good luck to you and let us know what happens.

Hi Leah ~ good to see you! Have you tried checking into getting WIC? That would help with formula and a few other things. Also, I am not sure if you own or are renting your house, but check into housing assistance (section 8 or something like that), also check your income for food stamps. I know doing this stuff is hard to do, it was for me, but sometimes we have to swallow our pride and go this route. Just don't make it a permanent solution. Use it until you can get back on your feet. There are also church organizations that might be able to help or Salvation Army or someplace like that.

Hang in there and try not to get that pdl if you can help it!!!!

I'm sorry to hear of your trouble,Leah. My parents and I went through this recently too. We still haven't had the money to pay our rent, and are afraid that the landlord will kick us out, because we were late with the rent last month as well. I really feel for you. :( To 2nband who made the comment about help above, how would you find out about WIC, section 8 and food stamps in your area? (or my area in this case) I've thought about checking into those things, but I believe my father and I make too much money. I've heard that they base the requirements on how much you make BEFORE taxes, which doesn't really make any sense to me. That, and they never take into account your personal circumstances or how many bills you have coming out. :( Oh well... Oh, and in case anyone's wondering since I asked the question about help in my area, I live in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Hope you find help somewhere Leah.

Kelly

The web site for WIC is http://www.fns.usda.gov/WIC/

It will give you all kinds of information such as how to apply, income guidelines, etc.

For Section 8 or housing assistance, go to HUD dot GOV

There is a section there under AT YOUR SERVICE that tells you about how to apply for housing assistance.

For Food Stamps the site is the same as the WIC web site except instead of putting WIC after the first back slash, put FSP

Also check with Social Services.

Leah,
The food stamp agency can also give you emergency stamps right away if you're really in a bind. Also, your Human Services or Social Services agency can put in something known as an EWS. I'm not sure if its still called that. I haven't worked with social workers for a while. Essentially that is emergency assistance for and individual or family in need. It is a one time service though. Just go to them and explain your situation. They are usually willing to help, especially if you have children.

Leah, have you gone to the Red Cross or any churches around? Check with them also and like someone else said, check with social services and see what they can do to help. Please try to stay away from the payday loans if at all possible!! You know how easy it is to start that cycle. If nothing else, call you landlord and explain what happened, call the utlity company and whomever else you need to call and see if they will work with you. Sometimes the utility company will work with you on a payment plan, which means they will want part of the money and then will usually let you divide the balance up over the next few months bills. You might give that a try.

Leah. I am a social worker. If you contact the social service agency they can help you even if you do not qualify for ongoing food stamps. They have emergency funds for just what you are going through. Also the person who said to go to churches is absolutely right, there are lots of organizations you can tap for some help. Please try I would hate to see you or your baby go without.

Thats a great point stargzr...It shows I have 175000 but I dont not have $175 in points...its a collective total and I have since cashed in many times for my own struggles.

With all due respect, if advice and kindness is what can be given, then so be it...we are here for each other and each contribution, whether is words or points, are valuable.

i too have been on the cusp of heading to a storefront pdl for gas money, etc...so I can understand the temptation.

Stargzr, Thank you for your post. Both you and Volley are correct. Many of us have our own struggles , and although we would love to be able to donate points, we just can not do it at this time. We can offer support and advice, and we do that openly. Please let us not be judged by our inability to donate .

leah do you get your taxes done thruogh h&r block
there may be alternative for you if you do. it is called the emerald advance. it works like a pdl
only better. you see the emerald line goes tp 300.00
and is payable by your refund. also it can be used again if needed, but you have to have had your taxes
done by h&r block last year. just something to
think about. a consumer friendly alternative to pdl's
a freind told me about it as he was about to embark
on the pdl nightmare. i don't advocate any type of
quick fix, but this sounds better than a ipdl.

NO NO NO. No loans. Go to your area church, they will give you what you need for food. You need to save a small emergency fund. You need to describe your living situation.
are you married, do live near family, are you renting, how many children , how old. How much is your rent, bills, income.

Ok,
I don't like where this one is headed. And because of that, I am locking this topic. This site has GOT to be a safe place for people to go to and judgement/bashing will not be tolerated. We can certainly disagree with each other but in a respectful way, OK? Sorry, but I have no choice...
