I was wondering whether people actually feel comfortable in sharing debt amount in public like our forums.

Do you guys feel comfortable in sharing your debt amount at DebtCC forums?

Nelly

I don't really have a problem either. For me, it isn't just the fact that people don't know who I am, but the fact that everyone is or has been in the same boat and do not judge a person based on how much one owes. I did a lot of reading before I posted the first time, to see what this place was all about. Now, would I necessary want to tell some of the people I know...Nope. My folks, nope. Like someone else mentioned, would I want to get up in front of someone and say, "HI My name is so-so and I am this much in debt", no...doesn't work for me.

I don't mind sharing that info online but in person, I wouldn't be giving out that info to just anyone.

I have approximately 6-700 dollars left in debt. When I first discovered this site my debt was a little over 3k. What's left is just 2 fair sized ones and a couple of small ones.

no one should feel uncomfortable stating anything unless they question security of site and so far I haven't seen any complaints

we are all strangers on line who might be uncomfortable talking about the truth in person but no one should ever feel uncomfortable in an on line forum

when one of my son's was 14..I caught him on line saying that he was 23..drove a porsche..lived in Paris etc etc..

the on line deal leaves the credibility question wide open..but I honestly think people here know when people are real or not and no one should feel uncomfortable about revealing anything

goodnelly you are so sweet! I am one of your biggest fans thanks for the question!!!!

I used to keep it secret to everyone and I think that was a huge part of the problem; I needed to acknowledge what it was and how unmanageable it was. I went to a counselor through my Employee Assistance Program. It was free and the counselor was very helpful.

In my opinion, I think the first part to becoming debt free is to put it out there and start to beat it.

I think talking about debt can have a pronounced effect for many people in getting a handle on it. That may include disclosing the amount of debt, the creditors involved, age of debt, etc... Any or all of these facts can help build a picture of a particular individual's situation. That can help a person to see the 'big picture', rather than being mired under an avalanche of details. Kind of like the old 'can't see the forest for the trees' saying. Disclosing the pertinent details is also necessary when seeking help, either from a counselor or from a forum such as this.

Myself, I don't have any problem disclosing the amount of my debt when circumstances warrant. If I'm asking for advice from the folks here, I'll throw that info in, in order to build a complete picture. I feel that gets me better advioce, sooner. My situation is atypical, however. I have only one collection item remaining, for a lousy seven bucks. That's still there because I'm pondering the best way to deal with it. Maybe I'll start a thread.... :)

Unclewulf I think you should ask them to give you a discount...Say 50%. ;-)

I'm not afraid for people here to know about my debt problems. When I came here I was in a real mess. But it was nice having people that could make me feel better when I was panicking about it, and to tell me I was doing great when I came here with good news. :)

Jessi, I'm just thinkin' on what to do with it. I lay awake at night, tossing in gin-fueled tremens, wondering where I went wrong. How am I, a lowly IT consultant, to come up with SEVEN DOLLARS in a hurry? And the accumulated charges have DOUBLED THE AMOUNT!!! And I have to have POSTAGE, on top of that? I dunno if I'll have enough left for a stamp, the way postal rates keep climbing.....

Seriously, I have been wasting the odd idle moment thinking on it. It's apparently some sort of unpaid co-pay from a hospital in Wyoming, and it's not even mine.

It's set to drop off my CR in about August of '08. When I challenged the entry in my CR, the CA sent me a half-assed statement, presumably as a feeble attempt at validation. Nothing with my sig on any agreement. I'm just debating on letting it die of old age vs offering them a pay-for-delete arrangement. I don't want to re-age a debt that ain't even mine, especially for such a niggling amount. And if I pay the damn thing, I don't want to spend the next seven years with a 'paid - collections' line on my report.
