GOSH!!.people go to lawyers, ASSUMING that they will help out whatever situation that needs 'attention'. It's REALLY sad to see that 'honest' ( obviously not!!) lawyers do this. What about all of those people that have given this guy ALOT of money, so far? Can they get their money back? Just thinking 'out loud' I suppose.

If you've been had by a bogus 'credit repair' scam, there are some steps you need to take. File complaints with your state AG, their state AG, and the FTC, just for a start. You should also speak to your local or state police about filing a report for possible criminal charges. As long as you've got a complaint written and a healthy mad going, you might as well file it with the BBB, ripoffreport.com, and anyplace else you can think of, just to get the word out.
Unfortunately, all of that is unlikely to get your money back. Your state AG's office will likely have a crew dedicated to consumer protection. Those folks will be able to advise you on your specific situation. You may also wish to consider filing civil proceedings against the company that ripped you off. I heartily reccommend the services of a good attorney in this, but it's possible to do it yourself if you have to.
Before signing with any company or advisor, research them thoroughly! This site and similar ones have a wealth of information about many of these outfits. Google is your friend, here.
Perhaps most important is to understand that you do not need any of these companies to improve your credit. None of them have a magic cure for fixing credit. You can do it yourself, but it takes time, dedication, and balls. Using nothing more than the information available on this site, I've managed to improve my score from 614 in December '07 to 731 as of last week. Your results will vary, based on your individual situation. But improvement is possible.

Persistence, more than anything else. Steady, on time payments with multiple student loans did most of it. Deleting scads of inzccurate info really helped. I hadn't looked at my report in about a decade, and there was a load of accumulated crap just begging to be cleaned up. Opening a bank card account gave it a boost, too. Probably due to more diversity in types of credit.
I have some recurring monthly bills that I'd been paying with a debit card. Various server accounts and the like, for the most part. I've set those up to hit the new Visa account instead. Then I'll just pay in full every month like I always do. That'll give me a permanent 'grace period' with no interest, since I'll have paid in full the previous month. Other than that, the new card sits in a safe place, unused. We'll see what happens now.
