We have over $50K in credit card debt. It's on two bank cards at an average of 16% interest. My husband and I are completely depressed. We have stopped using credit cards completely, but we are finding that we don't have enough income to get through the month now. Forget about money for our kids' college, we're just trying to figure out how to pay the minimum payments and interest and still get by! My husband is a state employee and I have a consulting business at home. My business is involved with new home construction, so the down-turn in the housing industry has killed my income over the last 6 months. Bottom-line...we can't see light at the end of the tunnel, and aren't even sure if we'll ever see light again. We are considering bankruptcy, but we hold positions in the community and that would be SO embarrassing. But we will if we have to. Any advice is appreciated.

Since it looks like you are a registered member you are entitled to a free debt consult. Someone should be calling you within a couple of days...you can also call the 1-800-601-1579 or click on the right side of your screen to speak to someone right away. Hang in there other's will be along shortly.

Just reading this board, remember you are reading stories from actual people who are or have gone thru what you are going thru now.

My family is going thru the same thing right now. We actually owe 96k in cc debt alone! It is not easy and it has really stressed me out, made me depressed and...well it just sucks! I did find this site and realized I am not in this alone. It has helped TREMENDOUSLY! Take advantage of the free consult and whatever you decide to do...do something now. I kept paying the minimums even if we could not afford it. For some reason I always thought we would get the money to pay it in full but never did. I sound like a broken record because I have posted this so much but try calling all the cc companies-tell them you can't pay. Ask for a hardship program or anything to help. In all honestly, we tried this and only 1 offered to help. My minimum payment was cut over 1/2 which was over $100 a month. It was something. The other creditors told me they would not talk to me until I was late so...I am late on a few cards now and will be late on the rest in a few weeks. Try yours-you never know what you might get offered.

I use to be so proud of my high credit score and we would sometimes tease eachother on who had the higher credit score and who got the better cards. It killed me to stop paying on these cards...until I had to call them for help. I realized they are not my friend and will not help. Again, 1 card did help me but I have many who said no. That changed my outlook completely.

You see what is going on. Now more than ever, it is hard out there. High gas prices, layoffs, cutbacks, etc means you have to hold on to the money you have and take care of your families needs first...not the credit card minimums!

One more thing, my husband and I also considered bankruptcy. Since we are wage earners, we would more than likely need to file Chapter 13. Not that I care who finds out we filed, I didn't want the hassle of people in my personal finances or garnishing my wages for repayment of these credit cards that aren't on my terms. Filing is not as easy as it use to be.

Please don't give up hope!

I too am in serious financial credit card debt; $133,000 - I could file bankrutpcy but am choosing to use debt settlement as an option. There is a lot of information about debt settlement on this site.
