i have been making monthly payments on a default judgment since 2000. i received a letter from a lawyer that stated they were suing the original creditor and that i was included as one of the people that the credit card company overcharged. when everything was said and done i received a small check and a letter stating that i no longer owed on this debt. i was told in the letter to call the debt collector which i did now they are taking me to court. can anyone tell me what to do?

What did the debt collector say when you called them? What I would do is contact the attourney that filed the group civil suit.If a suit was filed in yours and others behalf what I dont get is why is it you responsibility to contact the creditor or debt collector.

Also when filing this suit it seems to me that the firm that filed in your behalf did not have the judgment overturned which means there is still a judgment against you and thats why you are being sued again.

I would check at your local courthouse and see if in fact there is still a judgment against you also.
