I have gotten at least partial validation, namely a copy of 2 NSF checks written in 2002. Problem is, I STILL don't recognize it, and am not even sure if that is my signature! Heck, the checks don't even have that little thing on it where the cashier checks your ID and writes it on the check!!!

Can I demand to see these 2 checks and examine them? What I don't get is that these were done in 2002, I did not move until 2005, so why did I not hear a peep about them until now??

The bank is no help, they don't have the records any longer.

Should I file id theft? But what if it isn't theft and I just totally forgot? I don't want to get in trouble but I am not sure what to do at this point, heck, this was all done in another state so even if I did file ID theft..where would I do it?

*sigh* I just don't know where to go from here.

I am confused. Do you think that is a forgery of your signature? If it is then file an identity theft report. That way you are protected against any thing else that might show up in the future. I personally would know my true signature. Did the checks have your name and address imprinted on them? Do you think your signature was superimposed by a copy machine trick?

I honestly don't know. It is a very muddy copy to begin with. I do recall that my purse was stolen way back then with my ids everything...I thought I had it all taken care of but I just don't know...the signature kinda looks like mine, but I don't know how to describe it....forced? my sigs are very loopy, these have the big loops, but very sharp angles in other areas...but I might have done it if I was in a hurry or something...They did have my name and address for when I lived in the area, but I never heard of it till now, since I lived in the same place all through 2005, you think I would have gotten something. Im just worried about filing a false report...I don't want to do that...my husband says I am having a blond moment (I get that alot *sigh*) I am almost considering just ignoring them...they are due to fall off next year anyhow.

Ok this is just...weird....I realized that I had an old statement from a CA about the bank account (defaulted) but here is the kicker....the account was opened 4/23/02...yet the checks say the date as 2/28/02 ans 6/29/02...ok..so one check falls within the date, but one check was written BEFORE the account was open! How weird is that???

GoldenBast. It's been a while since I worked in banking; however, I thought banks were supposed to keep records going back at least 7 years? If the checks were written in 2002, and I'm presuming attempted to clear in 2002, then your bank should have some kind of recored on it. Now, I could be wrong since that new "Check 21" law went into effect.

Or perhaps the reason the bank is no help is because they have no record of the checks attempting to clear your account at all.

This might be an obvious question, and I'm not trying to be a smart alec, but do the routing numbers and account numbers on the check match your bank account? How about the copies? Did they send you copies of the front and back of the check? The back is equally important to see as it will show where the check was deposited,The depositor account number, the receiving banks sequence number, reason check was returned, etc. In trying to resolve a problem like this, a copy of the back of the check is just as important.

Yes I did contact them, turns out the account is in archives and if I want it, I have to pay like 40 bucks!!! I want to get it resolved, but sheesh....40 bucks?

I have copies of the back..its very hard to read but I don't see anything that can help me. The account numbers are correct....just the date the check was written is off...this is just so weird! Even the two signatures vary slightly, one looks more like what mine is, but it is different from the other..I'm wondering if maybe one check is mine and one is...fake?? I have no idea. Curiously, it is the signature on the check from before the account was open that is more off then the other...hmm.
