Can I legally ask someone who is trying to collect money from me for the following as debt validation?

-Copies of original signed receipts for credit purchases to prove I made the transaction

-Video tapes from the store or atm showing me entering my PIN # to prove I made the transaction

I don't think the law requires them to go that far. I think an itemized statement showing the charges were made, and how the interest and fees were added is the best you can hope for.

Requesting video proof is something you will not get. Frankly, the creditors are not required to videotape the transaction, so to require them to provide you video proof is absurd.

Also, it's not if they don't validate every penny you owe nothing. If they said you owed $1000, but could only validate $900, you would still owe that $900. Not being able to validate every penny doesn't nullify the whole debt.

I am certain that you'll be held liable for at least the ATM transactions (although an exception might have been made, had you disputed in a timely manner)...maybe you could push for the credit card receipts, but as I understand the FCBA, you only have 2 billing cycles to dispute a credit transaction charge to your account.

Also, if the creditor or collection agency is going to sue you for the debt, they do not have to prove the debt to your satisfaction, only to the satisfaction of the court.
