Collection agency?
I have a hosp bill which the collection agency failed to validate the debt despite my letters. I know they are not suppose to but can they sell the debt off to another collection agency? Do collection agencies sell debts to other collection agency's? Thanks

More than likely they will sell it off and you will have to do the debt validation with the next company. I would just keep in a word document on your computer so that you can just change the name and address for the next one, that way you won't have to re write the whole thing over again.

goodluck with this hope you get some resolution soon.

The answer is yes--they can and will sell it off to another agency. I am dealing with one that has alot of DBAs in it's corp., and they just pass it from one to another. I just keep sending DVs and keep copies of everything.

You need to make sure that they are the ones who really have your debt, the amount is correct and that they are legally able to collect on it.

Good Luck..KAren :D

Karen, if they pass it among their DBA's to get around validating it then they are violating the fdcpa as it is still their company that is trying to collect after validation has been requested. I sent a rather nasty email to LVNV funding telling them to stop their shell games or I would file suit. I told them to either pony up the validation or just stop trying to contact me. They have not contacted me since.

Thanks JCEMT!! That is the company I have been dealing with. I have sent so many DV letters to their many companies, I have lost count!!

I think I may do what you did--I am in the process of DVing them again on another company--I am assuming it is another DBA--don't rememberthe name right off hand though..KAren
