Hi, I am currently unemployed and a single mom also. So I have no income and am living off of family help till I can go back to work. Can I be put into jail for not paying my credit debt?

no you can not be thrown in jail for not paying your cc debt..if that were the case lots of people would be in jail, as it is now the jails and prisons are overcrowded.

The only thing the cc co's can do to you is #1 report you to the three credit bureaus. #2. Continously harass you till you could scream..#3. I think if I were you I would try to work something out with the cc co's if at all possible. It looks as though you are registered memeber and if so that entitles you to a free debt consult. You should call the 1-800-601-1579 number or click on the right side of your screen to speak to someone right away. Good luck and there will be other's coming along to give you advice on your best options.

Contrary to what some collection agencies may tell you about going to prison, everyone so far has been right - you can not be put in prison for failure to pay a credit card debt.

Also, make sure that whatever payment plan you set up will not stretch your budget so tight you can not provide for your family. Do not let them scare you into making a payment you can not afford.

Let us know how you are doing.

Well, that's not neccesarily true.it depends on what state your in.even then it would most likely be a civil issue, and they would have to prove you intentionally passed a bad check.
