What is verbal intimidation?
Verbal intimidation is often the road of the coward. The intimidator attempts to generate a range of fears in their target by simply using intimidating words. This can be as extreme as the the threat of physical violence. However, I am more interested in verbal intimidation that is non-violent in nature. The kind of intimidation used by lawyers, corporate rivals, police officers and employers.
Intimidation techniques
Every technique employed by the instigator has a single goal: to take your power away from you. Every one of us has a fighting spirit, a confidence that allows us to wake up in the morning, and take on the world. Your verbal attacker is going to try and take this away from you, to leave you nervous, doubting yourself, and even stuttering. Your aim: to never give your power away. You will always have your power if you remain calm, confident, and equipped with the responses provided here.
I really like this part>
Your Defense - Slow it down
If someone tries cutting-in on your responses. Simply pause, then politely reply:
I’ll answer your next question, when I’m done with this one.
You will likely hear the response, “We’re moving on.â€Â. To this, confidently respond with:
We will move on, when I’m finished.
This needs to be said in a calm and emotionless tone. Do not be scared to respond in this manner. Your aim is to take the power away from the instigator. They will attempt to take control of the conversation by trying to get back to cutting-in. You need to slow the conversation down. Keep saying “I’m not finished.†when they try to cut-in.

I had a rude collector calling me for several days on a debt for someone that didn't live at my address. I found out where his office was and the next time that he called and started threatening me, I told him that I knew where his office was and that if he didn't stop calling and threatening me that I was coming to his office and reach down his throat and pull his heart out. He had no response and hung up. Haven't heard from him since.

I have found out nothing makes a pdl collector more angry.than the fact that i won't listen to threr threats, also i respond in a calm manner.they can sense fear, apprehension, and anger.do not show those and they lose whatever advantage they think they have.i know it can be hard, these people are heartless.just stand your ground and they will back down. 8)

OK, I admit it. I had some pinhead from MRS associates calling a while back over something that isn't mine. I laughed at him! He started blustering again, so I called him an untrained idiot, and laughed some more. Poor boy got so flustered he hung up. I think I done hurt his last feeling.......

great post. I hope it will encourage everyone to stand up for themselves in any situation that calls for it. I especailly like the advice about staying calm. That is a hard thing to do when you feel like you are being attacked.
Thanks

I have to brag a little but I am not easily intimidated by people. I use a line sometimes that I got from a guy from Italy. "I am motivated by passion, not by pressure."
