I got home today and there was a message on my machine from "something-something" Investigations. I could hardly understand it, she "read" so fast. She was calling for my husband and stated that a civil suit was being filed against him in our state and gave an unintelligible case number. She then said that he needed to call Mr. Harris at 410-878-7057. And I quote:

"If you don't get in touch with us in 48 hours, then we KNOW IT'S YOU!!!"

Well, other than some medical bills, my husband doesn't have any big debts. All his old credit cards are waaaaay past the SOL. I looked up the number, and 800notes said that it might be Wolfberg and Stein. (Yikes! That's a scary name!) Should we pack up and move to Mexico? I'm too lazy for conjugal visits!

No sense trying to move to Mexico. If you're too lazy for conjugal visits, you're probably too lazy for all that packing, too.

Might as well call'em [tape the call,, if it's legal where you live]. Better to find out what they want up front, than get blindsided later. Let us know what you find out.

As for the suit, I tend to think it's a scare tactic. C'mon... That '48 hours' line? Unintelligible case number? Puh-leeze! And no dunning letter or calls first? That's like **** without foreplay.

You can call your local/county clerk of court to see if anything's been filed against you. Frankly, I doubt it.
