Question on debt consolidation

Will this debt consolidation effect my credit?
debt consolidation will lower your score a little in the beginni
debt consolidation will lower your score a little in the beginning but it will improve greatly once the progam is completed. Do not confuse it with debt settlement which can have a long term negative affect in some cases.
debt settlement
We have been a debt settlement program since May of 2007. We have settled 2 accounts with 5 to go. I am getting concerned because we are running out of settlement money so my question is...can we still do debt consolidation even though these other accounts are in collections?
