Stopping the calls

You could call the phone company and tell them about this and have your number changed. But putting your number on the do not call list will not stop them from calling.

Try a total cease-and-desist letter to stop the calls. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested, so they have to sign for it. It may not work, but you'll have legal recourse if it doesn't, and they know it.

For a complaint, try the FTC and/or the Attorneys General of your and their states. The fact that you are not in collections should not make any difference. Harrasment and unethical dealings are still against the law.

You might also consider contacting the FCC. I believe harrassing / obscene telephone communications falls within their purview, as well.

What are the company names? or at least their numbers? I can find addresses for you to send a letter to each stating that the person they are looking for does not reside there and to cease all communications with you. You should send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

I would definitely call the phone company as suggested and have your number changed, they are usually willing to work with you on these things, especially a re-cycled number, and these days it only take s a flick of the swtich, POOF, it's done. lol

I would actually not call the phone company because it doesnt fix the problem, it only hands the problem off onto the next person that's unlucky enough to get that number! Also, you might evd up with the same problem with the next number you get--remember, by now all the phone numbers have been recycled, so any number you get will have been someone else's before yours.

I would definitely go after the company doing this--if you can show violations of law there will even be a payday in it for you. fdcpa violations carry a fine against the company of $1000 each, paid to you. Please let us know the name of the company, or the phone number if you dont have the name, and we will get you the info you need to make this stop

My wife has been receiving daily calls from Jefferson Capital Syatems LLC. They are after another person with her same name. Silly thing is we have only been married a couple of years and the debt they want to collect on in her new married name is older than that. We have her credit report in front of us and she is currently at 802, 803 and 800. So, no real reason to worry that they have done anything to her report. But, I would like to get the phone calls to stop. In researching these scumbags it appears that they are pretty notorious for shady practices.

Have you talked to them and told them they have the wrong person? Is so, follow it up with a C&D via CMRRR. Any further calls you get $1000
