The worst and last Collection Agency I have to deal with
Date: Fri, 02/08/2008 - 22:56
I spent hours(Yep!)...hours reading forum threads and "How To's"here. Which now leads me to change the way I've been disputing error's on my CR.Hopefully with the info I've gathered from this site I can finally get this pain in the butt Palisades collection agency of my credit report. Not sure weather were allowed to name them as I have'nt read the site rules yet  .
Here lies the problem.
I paid a $104 to collection agency A(all documented)but Palisades collection agency slammed 3 buearus with with the same debt and account#.When I disputed it online x2 Palisades collection agency came back with "dispute resolved" I never had any communications with them, phone or mail.
Now my CA reads "Dispute Resolved,Consumer Disagrees" :( hu?.No matter what I've done Palisades always comes up with some bs.
I did call one of the bureaus to dispute by phone but I could'nt get anywhere,I just could'nt understand what she was saying.Politely said thank you and hung up.
So with info from this site my first step was to report Palisades to the FTC.Next I'm sending a copy of the dispute letter posted here to Palisades.
This last part of the year I did a "Pay Off My Debt Blitz"was,nt easy(lotta mac-n-cheese  ).I'm now near 0 debt.Score dropped 50pnts in 72 hours on one bureau and still cant figure out why.
All I have now is $2,100 left on my auto-loan(not sure weather to pay it off clear or not.)
And the pain in the butt $104 collection debt thats been paid already.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry longwinded but I finnally got this off my chest posting here.
P.S.I've calmed down alot since yesterday Ladybug

I settled a debt and the Debt recovery agency was representing a former creditor Pinnacle Credit Services, LLC which was hired by Providian credit card. I settled with FRS (Financial Recovery Services) and sent them $900.00+. They sent me a letter stating the debt is considered paid. That was May 07. I just received a 1099 in the mail from Pinnacle/Providian for the balance that was owed! My husband was livid because this is considered income for 2007. This debt was back in 2000. I am so angry. I mean how did they really settle? If they would have said ok you may give us this now and we will write off the rest when we send you a 1099 at the end of the year. Maybe I would have made a different decision. Is this ok? I mean isn't it a bait and switch type of thing. I really want to report them. Is there any way I don't have to claim this? I went on to the IRS site they had some info. in Pub 334 but I really couldn't understand it.
guest did you get debt validation before you settled?

In the letter they sent you, did it say paid in full or settled for less amount? I think (I am not 100% on this) that if it is considered paid in full they might not be able to do this because what could they report? The debt was paid. Depends on the wording of your agreement and the paid letter.
I would call the IRS and explain this situation and see what they have to say.
