i am in deep distress. i was traveling and my wallet with all the credit cards was stolen. i immediately informed the credit card companies about it and asked them to seal the cards. they did and i thought all was fine. but now they are charging me the whole of my due amount all at once which totals to about 7.5k. what do i do? i don't have so much of ready cash right now and they are threatening to sue me. i showed them the police report that i filed and asked for some time but they are thinking that i wont pay them anymore. they are not willing to listen to anything. help!

When you called did they close the accounts? Was it your intention to close the accounts when you called or was it just to inform them that your cards were stolen. The accounts can remain open and new cards issued and the old cards voided right? You can continue to use the account, not your fault that your stuff was stolen. Are the amounts that they are threatening you with charges that you have made or were they made after the cards were stolen?

If they were made after the cards were stolen I don't think they can hold you liable as long as you called it in and you have the police report to back it up.

If they are charges you made and you wish to keep the account open then the account should just flow as normal.

I think either way if they sued you, you would win based on what you stated here. goodluck
