Debt CC has one of the most unique features I have ever encountered in a debt consolidation business, it's one of the most important aspects of the website, our community. We have helped many people (105.796 and the ticker is still climbing!) There are a few things that we have in common when each of us first came to this website, most of us were in trouble, be it a collection agency, student loans, PDL's, etc. the key word is trouble and we needed help and we have found that help in ourselves and the other knowledgable and generous people in the community.

We have found strength and solace in our community where as we may have felt weak by ourselves (some of us may even have been approaching or at the breaking point) we found knowledge to empower us, we found friends to comfort us, and we were able to find out that we were not alone which sometimes is enough all in itself. It's not just why are they doing this to me or why is this happening to me. It's happened to others, there are others that are in the same situation. Coupled with the awesome consolidation services we can start to take back our lives and having the support of our wonderful community to help see us through these difficult times. This is truly a wonderful place.

That said, the internet is a vast virtual space, a veritable galaxy all in itself. There are many other companies out there, some may be rivals out there that cannot hope to even touch the services offered by Debtcc, some may be collection agencies that do not like to abide by the fdcpa, or PDL lenders that do not like to abide by state usury laws, and still others that just take satisfaction in the misery and suffering of others. Then there are entities on the web that wish to spread word of their products regardless if it is in a proper manner or not. You know who I am talking about, the trolls like No Nonsense Collector and the spammers like the stress relief bot.

They are here to only attack us and try to disrupt the harmony that is so inherent in this community. To take our attention from our mission to ourselves and others and to direct it toward them and make us bitter, causing dissension (which can happen).

We need to make a stand against them and make our community ours again and we can easily do this, here is what I propose.

From now on:
1. When someone posts a bunch of bullcrap we ignore it, don't post to it (I know that I am the first that needs to follow this advise)
2. Step up moderation, when this kind of useless crap comes up we need to PM and/or quick message a mod to have it deleted or the thread locked.

Come on everyone, it's time to take our community back completely. It's ours, we all helped in contributing to the great place this has become so let's keep it that way.

Thank you for listening to my long winded speech, I'll step off my soap box now.

Take care everyone

It looks like the troll decided to push back, just ignore his posts and let the mods delete him. He invokes god for his pay your bills drivel but don't respond. Let the mods do their work and delete his post. We must stand firm against those who stand against us. He posts to disrupt our work, we can fight back by not letting it happen. Let us continue to help and not let ourselves be distracted by people like that.

I'll be the first one to admit, I have responded to the posts made by guests (or posers) which obviously are not educated enough to post accurate information regarding the law. I soon learned not to respond, except to inform newer members or unsuspecting onlookers to ignore the inaccurate information being posted by these trolls. My main concern is that someone who is in a desperate financial situation will come along and read these posts, and take them literally, while we are waiting for a Mod to delete it. I know it's virtually impossible for the staff to have their eyes on this forum 24/7, however, I see no harm (and in fact feel it's most beneficial) for a member to respond to these posts with a statement to the effect of "please ignore, this post is bogus", well you get my drift. However, one member responding in this way is more then enough, that doesn't mean everyone needs to follow suit and scold the troll, that would be redundant then. Anyway, ignoring is probably the best defense at this point, so, yes, I agree with you JCEMT.

Ok, great advice, but I take offense to #2. We cannot step up moderating. We mods have rules we MUST follow. As long as the post is non-abusive we MUST leave it, even if it annoys us.

We moderators work hard to keep the board clean. But we can't just delete someone who, I'm sorry to say, has just as much right to post as you and I. The best we can do is ignore it.

I agree. The best way to deal with recent "collectors" (ie., trolls) posts is to ignore them. They are obvious from the suject lines and user names usually. Don't even click them. These are only trolls trying to start a flame war. Posts by real collectors are also usually obviously legit, and are welcome, as long as they are civil.
