hi bun! no you cannot go to jail for not being able to pay a payday loan. are they internet or storefront pdls? check if the payday loan company is legal in your state or not. start paying if you can for even if they sue in future, you will have the proof to show that at least you tried paying. if you can't, then the next time they call up just say that you are not in a position to make any payments, and you need more time. maybe they are just scaring you to pay up. wait and watch.

Actually, we need to know what state bun is in and also if this is a storefront or internet. If it's a storefront that does NOT prohibit criminal action and they now have a law firm contacting them, it could mean a bit of trouble. We need the state they reside in and what kind of pdl it is before advice is given.

I'm not going to be 'quick to answer' ( whether or not you can go to jail), however, a roof over your head and food on the table is more important than paying them, right now. I had ALOT of PDL's, at one time. Just had nothing left, after they were paid. FINALLY.I had to put 'stop payments' on them, so, i could have the money for rent, food, etc.
