I had a loan out with Paycheck Today. I was not able to pay it and they turned it over to ARM. I have been making monthly payments which should have been completed next month. I had made arrangements to pay back $350 on the loan but, conveniently, ARM forgot to send me the agreement email. Now, they are saying I owe $675. The rep at ARM got mad at me and now, because, his exact words, I am making his job harder, he will not take payments anymore. I have written to Paycheck Today to offer $460 on a $400 loan (the Legal amount in SC) and they refuse to take the payment. They will only take $675 and said to talk to a different rep at ARM. When I call ARM, the only rep they will let me talk to it the first person that I spoke with (named Sean). I am not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?? I am at my wits end.

Thanks for any help you can give!

ARM )Accounts Receivable Management is a huge multi state cube farm of poorly trained commisioned collectors. How much was your original loan, how much did you pay on it and what state do you live in? I had a similar situation with them and sent them a letter to make them prove that the loan was legal, as far as interest, and the the lender was legal in my state and how they arrived at the amount along with a cease communication. Never heard from them again.

Hi there, I had to deal with ARM over Paycheck Today and they were difficult. I did as Frog did and sent a request they validate the debt and have not heard from them again. Given they are a d/b/a/ of MTE, I would be willing to bet they are not licensed in SC. Try this link for a sample letter. Be sure to send the letter certified return receipt requested so you can prove they received it. I faxed it and sent it to them in the mail. They quit calling upon receiving the fax. Good Luck and plese post if you have any other questions.

P.S. I also filed a complaint with the BBB on ARM which I think helped.

At Wit's End - honey, take roxy's advice. Number 1. They are NOT licensed to lend. They are illegal. Number 2. Anything MTE related will give you a friggin migraine headache. Number 3. They will lie, cheat, and steal to get money out of you. Number 4. They will flat out lie to the government agencies. Number 5. You certainly do NOT owe what they are saying you owe. Okay, with my rant out of the way, let's focus. They obviously turned you over to collections (nasty people). Send them a debt validation letter. They will NEVER be able to properly validate this debt. It is not even a legal debt, as the original pdl is unlicensed/illegal, okay? Now that we know that your pdl is not legal and that you've been turned over to collections, you need to get a debt validation letter out to ARM as soon as you can. Do not even try to communicate with the pdl any longer. They turned you over and are refusing to take money from you. Well, goody for them. Let them sit there. Now, let me ask you........how are you paying ARM the payments? Are you sending money orders? Do any of these people (the pdl or the collection agency) still have access to your bank account? Or have you taken care of it to where they do not have your bank account information and can not debit any money from you????

From At Wits End: Thank you for the information. (I finally got my logon information correct and was able to log in)! I will write the letter tonight and send it. I did close my bank account. I have a pre-paid debit card that I have been using to pay ARM. I will close that also. I got it specifically to pay off any PDL's that I have outstanding (Yes, I got into a mess and, I am proud to say, I am slowly paying them off - thanks to a lot of good advice from this forum).

I was just surprised at how nasty and illegal they are being. He threatened to garnish my wages and take me to court. He told me that he would make sure Paycheck Today would not talk to me. He was down right rude and nasty!! I have been paying without any problems each month and, because they decided to charge me an extra $475, I now have this problem. He even told me he could play the tape where I agreed to the payments. I figure they can change that to suit their needs. I know what I have written down and what I agreed to!!

Thanks again for all the help!

You're more than welcome. These guys are friggin nuts. Just you knowing that this is an illegal pdl should at least put your mind at ease regarding "garnishing" your wages, etc. Please.... And send those jerks that debt validation letter. No way, no how, can they validate this illegal debt. And, thank goodness you're bank account isn't involved! Cut off the pre-paid card also and don't send them another cent until they can PROPERLY validate your debt (which they can't). And, gee, maybe when they decide to become a LEGAL/LICENSED company, they can ask for payments.
