Hmmm, I didn't have a PDL with them. I wonder who else they might collect for?

cdollar, I received several collection calls becuase of my pdls. I just send them a request for debt validation...do not even bother talking to them. I fax it first and send it certified return receipt. If you need a copy of one let me know. That generallly stops them from calling.

cdollar, does the web site have an address or even if there is a phone number you can trace it backwards. Did you use the phone number they called from to trace them on the BBB web site? If so, I would use that address.

sd, depends. Is the pdl legal or illegal? Is the CA legal or illegal? Is the debt considered a legal debt in your state? In my situation, internet pdls are not considered "legal debts", so any CA trying to collect on them is just swimming upstream. They're not getting anywhere LEGALLY. Harrassing, maybe - but legally - no. Plus the fact that some CA's aren't even licensed/legal themselves.
stargzr, you wouldn't even believe what they sent back as validation. One sheet of paper that looked like they wrote it out with a magic marker. Only had a dollar amount (that they wanted) and my name and address. HELLO!!!!! Now... let's all go look up the definition of "validation".

Most storefronts are legal....they charge the prescribed rate as outlined within the state laws. There are also a few internet PDL's that are legal...such as CashnetUSA and Cash Central. BOth of them are CFSA members and charge the legal rate.

Exactly as volley stated! :D Storefronts will be legal. And, believe it or not, SOME internets are legal! They have to be licensed to lend. That's why we check the pdl law for the states - to see if they are actually abiding by the state law. Make sense? I know it's confusing...........

Actually, if you look at some state pdl law, you would just fall on the floor. They can pretty much charge what they want. A lot of "unlimited" on the finance fees and such. Amazing. I thank God I don't live in one of those states. Now, in MY state, the pdl would be pretty darn brave to show their face (internet) and, yes, the judge WOULD laugh at them! But not everyone is in this situation. They may have licensed/legal internets that are abiding by the state pdl law (which sucks) and they are liable to follow those laws and pay those fees. Sucks.
