what you need to do, as soon as possible, is send them a certified letter requesting validation of the debt. Not "verification", but "validation". There is a difference between the two.
Also, in this letter, it would be a good idea to include what we refer to as a partial cease and desist statement. This is basically you telling them that any communication from them must be done through the mail.
This MUST be written, and it MUST be sent certified mail. That way, you will have proof of when they received it. Now, the moment they receive this letter from you, they are required by federal law to immediately halt all collection activity, which includes filing a lawsuit against you, until they obtain the validation documentation and send it to you.
