Your son is correct. They can change one little thing and the debit will go through. That's how these sneaky illegal companies keep getting money on accounts that are not closed/blocked. Yes, $150 is cheaper; however, you will still have a problem, unless your thinking of putting a stop payment on them for this one time and then closing the account before they hit again. Can you take letters in to your bank stating that you've revoked their authorization to debit your account and then they will put a block on it? You can type up quick letters revoking debit authorization to each one and take copies in to the bank showing you revoked their authorization.

I have resorted to finding what I can but since my aunt is driving a good distance to help me--i need all i can get correct so this gets done...sorry if it comes off impatient but.....

(b) Written authorization for preauthorized transfers from consumer's account. Preauthorized electronic fund transfers from a consumer's account may be authorized only by a writing signed or similarly authenticated by the consumer. The person that obtains the authorization shall provide a copy to the consumer.
(c) Consumer's right to stop payment--(1) Notice. A consumer may stop payment of a preauthorized electronic fund transfer from the consumer's account by notifying the financial institution orally or in writing at least three business days before the scheduled date of the transfer.
(2) Written confirmation. The financial institution may require the consumer to give written confirmation of a stop-payment order within 14 days of an oral notification. An institution that requires written confirmation shall inform the consumer of the requirement and provide the address where confirmation must be sent when the consumer gives the oral notification. An oral stop-payment order ceases to be binding after 14 days if the consumer fails to provide the required written confirmation.
(d) Notice of transfers varying in amount--(1) Notice. When a preauthorized electronic fund transfer from the consumer's accounts will vary in amount from the previous transfer under the same authorization or from the preauthorized amount, the designated payee or the financial institution shall send the consumer written notice of the amount and date of the transfer at least 10 days before the scheduled date of transfer.
(2) Range. The designated payee or the institution shall inform the consumer of the right to receive notice of all varying transfers, but may give the consumer the option of receiving notice only when a transfer falls outside a specified range of amounts or only when a transfer differs from the most recent transfer by more than an agreed-upon amount.
(e) Compulsory use--(1) Credit. No financial institution or other person may condition an extension of credit to a consumer on the consumer's repayment by preauthorized electronic fund transfers, except for credit extended under an overdraft credit plan or extended to maintain a specified minimum balance in the consumer's account.
(2) Employment or government benefit. No financial institution or other person may require a consumer to establish an account for receipt of electronic fund transfers with a particular institution as a condition of employment or receipt of a government benefit.

As Cannr pointed out when you go to the bank request to speak with the manager. Do whatever you can to make them listen and hear you. You need to fight the good fight if needed. Also, if they are still not helping you, aske the manager who his/her boss is and their contact information. You can report the bank if need be...be strong..this is your money, fight for it.

So, they can stick that excuse. Also, ask to speak with the manager/boss/head honcho. Do not be afraid. Apparently this "supervisor" is not willing to help you. Go higher. If they STILL give you a hard way to go, ask them directly for the telephone number of their corporate office, as you will be needing that to contact them. Make them give it to you. And, also roxyny posted good information regarding reporting the bank. Do not be afraid to use that either. I'm not saying go in there with guns blasting, but when it comes to your money, you need to be firm. There is no reason they can not put a hard debit block on this account. When I put the block on my account, the manager hit a couple of keys on the keyboard and it was done. It took all of two seconds. That's why I do not understand your banks problem. Do not hesitate to contact the corporate office if need be. Hell, I did and I got results from them. They helped me when my bank tried to be butts. Please go today, stand firm, ask to talk to the person in charge. If they still won't help, get the phone number for the corporate office, tell them you will be contacting them, and also let them know you will be filing a complaint against them. You must be strong. I CLOSED my account (checked the rules/laws of doing that) and I got monitoring on my bank account for a week at least (got that in writing) and I got a box of checks for FREEEEE. No stop payments were done since they are useless--so no $150 dollar charges. I faxed the companies of my intent---tonight I mail envelope to Raleigh,NC.....and we just wait till !@#$%^&*()_+hits the fans. Oh I will be on vacation when the calls start rolling in (LOL). But most of all---THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all who walked this walk with me...I went in head strong (and a nauseated stomach)due to all who rallied around me and gave me confidence---THANK YOU. I will keep you all updated and I wish that many others can feel the desire to make that jump to a better life.

its nerve racking, nauseating and you feel alone.....I knew I wanted it badly but actually doing is another story....I have really no one I can say I can count on (yes my aunt helps but its usually on when desperate sets in)...being disabled I have a hard time believing in much--you gey used to people trampling over you but you all treat people as humans...I really appreciated that. My teenager will be so proud of me--he was worried I would of backed down---the bank was astonished how prepare I was and I just thanked all the people on this website. She could not do much jerking around and trying to pull a fast one. Ok--what do I do if calls start coming in..don't rush in response I am enjoying my day (with a sinus problem) and KFC (my aunt treated me. I have so many calls to make to change accounts. First PDL's are illegal here in NC (I am in NC also)
As far as your bank is concerned, you need to write a letter and send it via email or USPS telling them you are revoking your authroization to debit you account. Make sure you include all the information you gave then when getting the loan, which is the name of your bank and account number. Make sure you let them know you found out that they are operating illegally in the state of NC. In the letter include that you revoke any authorization you gave them to contact you references etc.
Take a copy of this to your bank. If nothing else, until you can get the new account established (which I recommend at a different bank), show them this letter and fill out some paperwork they give you. Keep an eye on your account and when you see these debits on there, go right to the bank and have them reversse the transaction. Most of the time they can do this, but they do have to have a copy of the letter you sent to these people on file, and you need one for each company. But get that bank situation taken care of ASAP or they will eat you alive.
