Hello, ive been following this forum for some time now, and figured id submit a question. I recently sent a letter to NOC Fin/27 to verify or prove that i owe them this crazy amount of money they claim, and today i get a letter stating this:

"Dear (me)

Thank you for your recent communication. I can assure you that we are committed to assisting you; however, we have been unable to locate the matter you have referenced from the information we have been provided. Please provide us with further identify information such as your social security number, name of original creditor, and the creditor's account number and/or reference number and the billing address of the account. A copy of any correspondence you may have received from us would also be of assistance. To better assist you, please provide the phone number we are calling so we may remove it from our systems. Kindly contact me at the above address with this information.

While we have complied with federal laws, factors beyond our control may prohibit us from conforming or denying the presence of inaccurate information within the time frame prescribed by state law. We may not have sufficient time to complete an investigation of the alleged inaccuracy."

what should i do now? sounds like to me they are trying to start an account on me. or am i being paranoid? giving my info to a creditor that supposedly already has it seems fishy? any help would be most appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't give them any of this information - YOU requested a debt validation, yet everything in the letter it seems THEY are asking you to verify it yourself. THEY want your SS, your original creditor? your account? That is THEIR job, if they can't validate they need to remove this from any/all credit reports, and they should cease collection activities.

Write them back - tell them as you are unable to validate this debt everything should be removed, etc.

DO NOT - give them any other info.

Oh last thing - this also sounds little like a scam, if they are truly collection for a valid debt, they would have received a file with all this information, the original creditor and amount of debt would have been the first things they received from the original creditor.

So don't give them any info!

There should be a NCO File number on the paper they sent you. Until they verify the debt, only refer to the account by the NCO file number. You won't "verify" any of your information, yet you can speak to them regarding the account in question. That file number alone is all you need to Dispute the account.
