Time Frame for Credit reports

I thought I saw something on this board that says a Collection account can only remain on your Credit report for the length of time that the original Debt does.
Is this correct?
Second if you are able to get the original debt removed early does that mean the collection entry has to be removed?

No, but there's a chance the CA cannot prove that the debt is legit, so file a dispute.

if you filed before 10/2005 doesn't it fall off your credit report aftewr 7 years? and if you filed afted 10/2005 it's 10 years?
