Good afternoon:

I have been to this site before and every information I had got has been very useful. I had a pay day loan with the above company back in 1/07. It was for 300.00. I got 4 payments that bounced back because of insufficient funds. The co. got out of my account a total of 220.00 in the month of February. Now like year later, the co. hires a so called "Law Office" to get the money. And they claim that now I owe them 290.00. That doesn't make any sense at all. I hoping that someone on this forum could provide me with some guidance on what to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

PS: The Law Firm "Burgess" says that they'll take me to court. It was very stupid of me to take this type of loans and I'm very much aware that they are illegal in NYC from I'm.

eso, you're correct. First of all, if you reside in NY, plds are prohibited. Second, MTE is not even licensed/legal to lend in any state in the United States. So this bogus idiot who is contacting you is blowing hot air at you. Did he contact you via telephone or email or USPS? He can't take you to court or anything of that sort. What you can do, is if he tries to contact you again, or if you have an address for him, send him a debt validation letter. He would have to properly validate this debt, which can't be done since it's an illegal debt. If he calls you or emails you, ask him for a mailing address so you can send a debt validation letter and also let him know that it's needed so you can file complaints with the government agencies. Don't be shy. Let them know exactly what you are doing!

Thanks so much for your support. Unfortunatelly, I don't have a copy of the contract. But these companies charge a horrendous amount of $ in interest. Regards!

You honestly don't need a copy of the contract. As long as you know how much they deposited, when they deposited it, and how much they debited your account, you're good to go. Just give as much information as possible. Please post if you need anything else. We're here to help!
