I paid off one of my husbands accounts which was in collections last year, I settled with the agency and they sent a letter stating "Upon receipt and clearance of the settlement amount, there will remain no further outstanding obligations pertaining to the account" Although the debt from the collection agency has disappeared from my husbands credit report the original creditor has not updated the information and it remains KD on his credit report. I called the collection agency asking them to send a letter stating that the account had been paid and was closed and I'm still waiting on it. I do have the check that was used to pay them and the letter from them stating that upon payment of X amount the account would be closed. Would that be sufficient for the credit bureaus or do I need something more? I am wanting to clean up that mess of his credit report so we can apply for a mortgage. Thanks!

If that doesn't work..maybe, you can send all of that proof to the CB and (possibly?) 'dispute' the items, if they are on your CR. I had an issue, like this one. The OC WOULD NOT 'update' my CR. I sent the proof to the CB.....it worked!! The CB 'updated' and deleted' the debt.
