Said they cannot assist me because Im in Maryland. She said that you have to use a company that is located in the state of Maryland ..

Doggone it!

I guess I should just contact the AG and commissioner of financial regs. If anyone in MD has worked with either office and can offer some advice, could you please share what steps you took?

Thanks!

T&C won't work with people in WI either :x

First you should contact your states department of financial institutions and ask for a list of companies that are licensed to do business in your state. Some states require that you use a company located within the state, others will let you use out of state companies but as long as they are licensed in your state. But then once you get the list and pick a company please check with the BBB to see if they have any complaints against them and you can also contact the DFI again to see if they have any complaints against the company. Just do your homework and you should find a company that will work for you.

If you're talking PDL's, I live in Maryland and I'd highly recommend contacting the office of the Commissioner of Financial Regulation - Enforcement Division at the phone # given at this site. You'll need a list of the PDL's you've taken out, copies of any paperwork, email contracts, etc. PDLs are prohibited in Maryland.

For some reason this stone-age compatible computer isn't letting me email you directly - oh well, all I can say is that I contacted the people w/ the State of Maryland (Commissioner of Financial Regulation), and sent them copies of my paperwork for the PDLS'; they told me to refer all calls, emails, etc., from the PDL companies (which were all internet) to them, which I've been doing. I closed my checking account. Per the Commissioners' Office, when I received e-mails or calls, I told the PDL companies that I'd found out they were illegal in Maryland, I'd filed a complaint with the State, no more payments would be forthcoming and if they had any questions, they were to contact the Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation. Goes without saying I'm still getting the calls and e-mails from PDLs', but they give me their "same old speech," I give them MY "speech," and then they hang up on me. I keep a log of any calls and emails I receive and forward them to my contact w/ the MD Commissioners' office. They told me to do this and that they would contact (or attempt to contact) the PDL companies on my behalf. So, that's really about all that's been going on. The calls from the PDL's are kind-of a pain, but a few of them (the overseas ones) are almost funny! (read some of the other threads here, and see what I mean :) )
