I painfully filled up this weekend at $3.55 a gallon and its on the rise. Today, it was at $3.60...for the "cheap" gas.

Gasoline prices, in the midst of a record run-up that could smash the $4 barrier, are up 46 cents a gallon across California in the past month. The statewide average hit $3.58 a gallon Tuesday for self-serve regular, according to AAA of Northern California. Sacramentans paid a record $3.57, up 48 cents from the month before |
We have members all over the country here...What do you pay for gas in your area?

The sign across from my office window at the Hess in St Pete Florida says 3.23 for regular and 3.99 for deisel. Those poor truckers!! Diesel used to be cheaper than gas!

On average the most expensive gas in California was in Santa Barbara, Tahoe City and San Mateo, at $3.75 a gallon. |
Santa Barbara is right above LA, but I know in the past I have paid 20-30 cents more in LA than the highest reported gas prices....so around $4.00 in LA right now wouldnt surprise me.

In the Charlotte, NC area we are seeing about $3.25. After becoming a mamber of this sight I will tell you I have looked in to all areas of cost savings. One thing I didn't think I would ever do is commute in to work via the bus transportation. I made that a priority for me "New 2008". On January 2nd I was like a little kid on the school bus. I didn't want to do it and it was cold and I had no clue as to what I was doing or where, close to my job, the bus would stop. I sat there for several minutes before I had to drag myself out of my car. The bus driver was so wonderful!!! I live about 45 minutes away from Charlotte and I work in the Uptown area. I was paying $80 a month to park my car and I averaged around $60 a week in gas. I can buy a monthly bus pass for $49!!! I an saving about $200 a month.
So that was a "ramble" on my part but I was so excited at the savings. If anyone in the family has thought about the bus, or other method of public transportation, but has been afraid "TRY IT". I've even started to go to the Library each Sunday and I can get all the books I can read for free.... another savings!

Gas is about 3.50 out here in rainy Portland, Oregon. I start back at work on Monday, and i am definitely taking the bus. To get to work by 9am, I have to catch the bus at 7:30am. I'll sleep on the bus....or read, or listen to my radio. I don't have an ipod thingy, i don't even know how to download music, so I get to listen to talk radio in the morning. At least commuting on the bus gives me a chance to sleep more. and save money since my work pays for half of my bus pass. I don't think we'll be driving to Eugene (1.5 hours away) for Easter this year. I'll make my own ham to save the gas money on the trip. :?

We're at 3.19 in Omaha, NE. I work for a trucking company, right now our Fuel Surcharge is .53 per gallon. That's why the consumer is seeing the prices increase on everyday items. We have to recoop the price of fuel just to get goods to the consumer.

I swear it's a vicious circle. My husband & I work for the same company so we are able to carpool to work. We drop all the 3 kids off at school & daycare then head on into the office. We take our lunch to work just so we don't have to drive anywhere during the day or buy lunch. If there are people out there that think we aren't in a recession...they better take a closer look. I know we aren't the only people in America watching every nickle & dime that we spend.

I am keeping a tight fist and trying to save $ wherever I can. I pay $75.00 a week on gas right now so I have started bringing my lunch too and wow, what a savings in time, lunch $ and gas money too.

I use public transportation to and from work, and I am lucky. It is only 20.00 a week. I do splurge sometimes f I am out late and will take a taxi, but those times are few and far between, I also bring my breakfast and lunch to work. It is a huge savings.

I know you're right. I never thought in a million years we'd be paying 4.00 a gallon for gas. Heck the average american is going to have to start charing employers a fuel surcharge just to be able to into the office to work.

It'll be nice when the weather here ever breaks... My old dog '93 Voyager gets about 24 mpg, with its anemic 4-cylinder engine.
The bike, on the other hand, gets more like 50+. And it'll outrun any cage on the road.

I filled up today at $3.39 a gal. here in Central Indiana....I am so glad my little car is good on gas. I think I get about 29 mph. There is very little if any public transportation where I am...so I have to drive!

I just filled up tonight at $3.29 in NE Wisconsin. Sucks because hubby filled up on his way to work in another small town just 8 miles away and he paid $3.19 :x But even though I paid $50 to fill up my truck today I haven't filled up for 3 weeks. So 450 miles in 3 weeks and $50, not bad :D There is no public transportation here in the town I live in, but yet that would probably include a bike or you feet (our town is lucky if it is 2 miles by 2 miles lol). So I guess I use public transportation to get to work lol I walk, but my work is in my back yard  I walk out my back door across my yard into works yard and across the parking lot and into work lol. I have to be on the job by 5:30am and I leave my house at 5:20am lol. :D

I'm SO glad we recently moved to a home closer to my job. Now, instead of driving 50 miles round trip every day (in a conversion van at 18 mpg), I'm driving 27 miles round trip (afer I take the kids to school & pick them up afterwards, which causes a little backtracking) in a minivan that gets 20-22 mpg. It's nice to make 3 full trips from home to school to work and back to the school and then home on only a quarter tank. But the gas prices don't appear to be going down any.

I guess I will quit gripping about our gas here!! It just went up the other day to $3.09 a gallon and I had a fit

I have noticed a big jump in groceries...a big jump in such a short time period. Seen some items go up by almost a buck in a day or two.

I live in a small community where there is no public transportation. Gas here is $3.31 and most likely will go higher. Yet i don't have much of a choice. My car also is not in the best of shape so i try not to drive unless i have to. If i have to run errands, i make sure i do everything in one trip.
Going grocery shopping is a real bummer..Can barely afford a gallon of milk. At this rate, about the only thing i will be able to afford is Top Ramon Noodles.

Milk and eggs have jumped the most it seems...bread it getting up there too.
I used to like to take little day road trips here and there on the weekends, but those are out. I am meeting some friends in LA next week and I cant cancel because they are fling out from NJ. I am contemplating flying Southwest from Sac to LA since it might even be cheaper than driving due to gas prices along I-5.

I have noticed that snacks Potato chips and such..For some reason seems bags keep getting smaller and the price keeps going up... Another one is cereal that is getting way out of hand...I have decided that i am going to start growing my own corn, wheat and such..then i can apply for CRP monies from the government. Most likely won't get much since my yard isn't very big.

Food is already going up and I'm sure more items will go up as well, as a result. I think it's because of the higher diesel prices, as that's what truckers use--and most of these goods are moved by trucks. Just my two cents...

lmkl I am in Lincoln and your gas in Omaha is cheaper than our gas in Lincoln, it is such a rip off when you can just cross the bridge to Iowa and pay about 30 cents less

Funny thing, that... I drive a municipal transit bus during the day [second job]. Been at it for 7+ years. Gas here is $3.25, but we don't have any more riders than we had when gas was $2.00.

For my sins [which are many], I live in Vermont. You know, Dairy Central. A gallon of milk at the regular grocery is $4.25! Even with paying $3.75 or so at the local Aldi, I spend nearly forty bucks a week just on milk.

Gas here is at $3.31 and holding...til monday..Unclwulf..we don't have any dairy farms around here (that i am aware of) and regular milk runs around 3.79 with 2% at 2.79 depending on where you buy it. You are lucky that you have public transportation.out here is the wild wild west, we don't have anything other than Taxi cabs which are worse than driving your own car..Amtrak quit running through here and Greyhound only goes through once a day to go to Portland and Seattle and that pretty much sums up our public transportation... There are the pros and cons of living in a rural community and this, i can say is one of the cons..

Lemme clarify things a bit. I'm in Vermont. Granted, I'm in a town, but everything in the northeast is so jammed together... The town is about 16,000 people. That's as rural as it gets in these parts. Hell, the entire state has less people than Portland.
FYI, before I came here, I lived quite happily in Medicine Bow, Wyoming. Population 207 at the time. That's the wild west.

This thread was created on March 12..and I posted gas at $3.60. Today, I got gas at $3.91 and that was with a 3cent per gallon discount due to being a Safeway Club Card holder, otherwise would have been $3.94.
I am frustrated because we try to visit a few national parks during the summer as a family, via long-weekend road trips, and we can just forget about it now...it sucks.
How's everyone else on gas prices?

That last I seen it was $3.55 but if you go 20 miles outside of the city that I live in which also happens to be the state where the capitol is located (Nebraska) and a college town to boot it is .30 cheaper. Hell I think it would be worth the 30 minute drive to fill up. I drive a Honda so I think it would be a good idea.

We paid $3.49 to fill up hubby's truck yesterday in a different town. Here where we live it is $3.59 and rising daily. I would expect it to be $3.61-$3.64 by the end of today :x

I paid 3.65 but I am trying out an experiment with Supreme Unleaded. My mom swears that she gets 50 extra miles from constantly using Supreme. I have a 12 gallon tank so it's only a couple of dollars extra for me right now. But I should know more after a few weeks if it works or not.

Well, its official....we broke the $4.00 mark here in Sacramento....gas went up about 6 cents overnight and I got gas this morning at $4.02 for the "cheap" gas. Chevron and Shell are both $4.10.
