Anyone else watching the reality show "High School Reunion" on TV Land? It's only two episodes into it and I am seriously hooked! And I rarely watch reality shows at all!

The premise is, the have taken some people from the graduating class of 1987 at a high school in Texas. It's seems they have tried to represent the different types of "clicks" in high by the people the have selected; the bully, the jock, the drama queen, the outsider, etc. Then they threw them all into this house in Hawaii and the sparks start flying!

Turns out two of them were married; however, they divorced after the woman had an affair with her husband's best friend. Another member of the class of 1987, that was brought into the house at the end of the second episode. Can't wait to see what happens next week!

I think the thing that amazes me the most, is that some of these people did actually keep up with each other after graduation. I have not spoken to hardly any of the people I went to high school with since..... well, since graduation. I have not been to any reunions, and have no interest in going to one. The odd thing is, I now live back in the same town I went to high school in. Of course, I was away for a few years while I was in the Navy and living in New Orleans. It just seems odd that I never run into any of them.

Another really cool thing about the show is they play a different 80's song at just about every change of scene. Kind of a blast from the past, music wise, for me. I still love 80's music!

Oh well, just curious to see if anyone else has watched this show and what they might have thought about it.

Yayyyyy! Now I don't feel so old!

I graduated in '83, so that's 25 years for me.

Still, I always think it might be interesting to see what some of the people I knew way back when, look like now. Is the prom queen now a trailer park queen with about 30 kids? Is the sports jock a raging alcoholic? Or is he gay? Who's been incarcerated? Did the nerd turn into a body builder?

Wait a minute. I was the nerd. So......that's a definite no.

Oh, I thought I was the only one in the world who watches TVLand! I love this show! And I find it interesting. I haven't kept in contact with anyone from high school except maybe a handful of people. I would LOVE to do something like this show! It would be awesome! Whatever happened to all the little cheerleaders that graduated with me? Hmmmm..... And I haven't gone to my reunions. Yuck. And I graduated high school in 1985, so no one is old here!

I think I posted this before; however, I think it is worth repeating.

I realized I was an old fart the day I had to explain to a girl in her early 20's exactly who the group Duran Duran was. She had honestly never, ever heard of them before.

I felt like crying.

Class of 88! The best of times.... I will have to look the show up. I'm starting to prepare for my 20 year reunion this year. I wasn't going to go but my ex-husband married a girl I graduated with and even hung around with. Ought to be interesting and since I am still single I better start now on "looking good"! Listed to 80's on my way in to work this morning they were calling it "Blast from the past Friday"!

Paul Mergel!

Lay down that boogie, and play that funky music 'till you die!

Till you die?

Ooooh, till you die!!!

Wild Cherry!

Oh, man what great memories you just invoked! I used to love that song!

I graduated in 1990. I LOVE 80's music. It's sooooo much better than the stuff they play now. WOW...I just TOTALLY sounded like my parents. Like...gag me with a SPOON! Bag your face! TOTALLY! I was more of a "goth" in high school, though. I was in marching band, and the art club, and wore black all the time. Back then, we didn't paint our faces up, though. Just didn't wear too much makeup, and wore black. Maybe some eyeliner and lip gloss. But, then it became trendy my senior year, so I started dressing like a hippie. I went to school in NC, but came out to OR every summer to see my mom. I bought some Birkenstock shoes and some hippie skirts, and was good to go. Besides, my parents were both kind of hippies, so they liked the change. It made college much more fun, too. Hmm....memories. But, in middle school, I did the whole big bangs and Madonna. Remember those black rubber bracelets and jelly shoes?

Swedishgirls Said:

"Back then, we didn't paint our faces up, though. Just didn't wear too much makeup, and wore black."

Me too, I liked to keep my makeup to a minimum; gave me that "natural" look. Of course, now there's "Bare Minerals" to help give me that look. And black? Isn't that supposed to be "slimming" when you wear it? Problem is, I don't think there's enough black out there to slim my fat behind down at this point!

Just Kidding.

I remember the Sonny and Cher show! Boy what the heck happened to Chastity Bono? She was such a cute kid!

Does anyone remember "Rocky Horror Picture Show?" The first time I got to see it was while I was in the Navy and stationed at Great Lakes. Forget the name of the theater in Chicago I saw it at. Boy was it fun, though.

Yikes! Now I just put that Village People song in my head!

Sing it with me now!!!!

In the Navy

Yes, you can sail the seven seas

In the Navy

Yes, you can put your mind at ease

Hey, I got one of the special edition anniversary DVD's of Rocky Horror two or three years ago. It has the movie on it along with the movie/with audience participation on it. Man what fun!

The audience participation was really the only reason to go see it. To "live the experience", so to speak.

WitheRock, didn't really get into fish net stockings myself, didn't have the legs for them.

Kidding.

My era was more into the torn stockings and tights. It was kind of at the beginning of the punk/new wave phase back in the early 80's. No one really had a set style back then, and there weren't a lot of stores that carried the more "wild" fashion trends, it was pretty much made up as you go along. I do remember I was the first one in my high school to get one of those really spiky hair cuts. I remember I used to get called "fag" for it by all the football players. Then the next year they all had the same hair cuts.

Jerks!

Hey, I wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer!!!!! What about Soul Train, with the ads for Afrosheen??
And you have to forgive me...my generation is culturally deprived---the freakin Bee-Gees had the number one album my senior year---the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack!!!!!!!
And I was jealous of my sister that year--the local college had a coffeehouse series a few years before that--and she saw a band called Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band before they hit big. Life. Is. Not. FAIR!!!!!!!!

I wanted to be one of the dancers but remember how they would play a song and have a bunch of people lip sync the different lines? That's who I REALLY wanted to be!!! :)

Did anyone else ever watch Dance Party USA on the USA network in the 80's? My friends and I watched it every day after school!

Solid Gold! Wow, what an homage to the dico era!

UncleWulf, WhiteRock, I remember all those shows you referenced. And who could forget to mention the classic Donny and Marie Show? I used to love that show. They were just so cute and perky. They recently came out with all the behind the scenes horror stories they endured. Some TV exec told Marie she was too fat. I always thought she looked borderline ****back then.

What a poor misguided kid I was.

Anyone remember the show "Dance Fever" with Denny Terrio?

WhiteRock!

The name of the show was "Dark Shadows!!!"

Another one I thought was great back then, but when I see it now, I say to myself WTF was I thinking?!? Sci-Fi channel will run the show every now and again. I remember they used to show it at the 11:00 AM hour on the weekdays back when I went back to college; mid 90's this was. I actually scheduled my classes so I could be home to watch it before I had to go to work. I really wanted to see the whole series from beginning to end, just so I could say I had.

How lame was that?

Still, I'd probably buy the series on DVD if I had a job and money.

In case you guys can't tell, I'm real big into pop culture. If you ever want to win at Pop Culture Trivial Pursuit, you want me on your team. My Ex and I stayed at the Disney resort "Pop Century" a few years back. It was a pretty cool place to stay. In the lobby, they actually had little shadow box displays of different icons from each era, it was cool looking at them and seeing some of the things I had owned myself. Like the first "programmable" phone that you could store phone number in and have it dial them for you at the press of a button. They actually had the exact make and model of a phone I had back in the 80's.

Spooky.

Does anyone remember the original Battlestar Galactica, and how lame it was. Of course I still ate it up because it was Sci-Fi. Ever see the new Battlestar Galactica? One of the rare instances where the re-make was actually light years better than the original!

This is one of only two TV shows that I have to watch religiously. The other being "Family Guy." Oh, and I guess now "High School Reunion" makes three.

The new season of BSG start in April!!!! Friend of mine is actually having a viewing party for it.

Ok what about the great TV show CHIPS. My friend and I were so in love with John and Ponch(spelling??). I look back now and think how the acting was sooo bad in this show. I can't stand to watch it anymore.

Lost in Space was another one of my favorites. My husband and son are huge fans of DR. Who. Of course they watch the new ones but have the old ones on DVD.
