Anyone else watching the reality show "High School Reunion" on TV Land? It's only two episodes into it and I am seriously hooked! And I rarely watch reality shows at all!

The premise is, the have taken some people from the graduating class of 1987 at a high school in Texas. It's seems they have tried to represent the different types of "clicks" in high by the people the have selected; the bully, the jock, the drama queen, the outsider, etc. Then they threw them all into this house in Hawaii and the sparks start flying!

Turns out two of them were married; however, they divorced after the woman had an affair with her husband's best friend. Another member of the class of 1987, that was brought into the house at the end of the second episode. Can't wait to see what happens next week!

I think the thing that amazes me the most, is that some of these people did actually keep up with each other after graduation. I have not spoken to hardly any of the people I went to high school with since..... well, since graduation. I have not been to any reunions, and have no interest in going to one. The odd thing is, I now live back in the same town I went to high school in. Of course, I was away for a few years while I was in the Navy and living in New Orleans. It just seems odd that I never run into any of them.

Another really cool thing about the show is they play a different 80's song at just about every change of scene. Kind of a blast from the past, music wise, for me. I still love 80's music!

Oh well, just curious to see if anyone else has watched this show and what they might have thought about it.

Lost in Space and Dr. Who!

Man this is really a most pleasant trip down memory lane! My group of friends and I were all into Dr. Who, we really were a bunch of nerds and geeks. They used to show they daily episode on the University of Flroida's PBS station, and I could actually pick in up here in Jax on an antenna (we didn't have cable way back then). Then they would show all the episodes from the previous week on Saturday nights. Usually grouped with Monty Python and the original Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series.

Oh wow! Good times.

I do like the new Dr. Who series too. I actually liked the Dr. they had on the first season, that was replaced by that guy in the Harry Potter movies. The first new Dr. went on to be in Heroes for several episodes. There was also a very lame Dr. Who Movie that Fox did back in 1996, really not worth watching though.

And I didn't really get into Lost in Space until my later years, once they started showing it on Sci-Fi channel. I did like the movie they had a few years back too. It was kind of a neat update.

Anybody remember, or even watched, Space 1999? This was pretty much the only half-way decent Sci-Fi show on TV in the 70's until Star Wars hit big in 1977. I think Space 1999 only lasted two seasons, though.

Dr. Who Scarf! That's great.

He was trying to emulate the "Tom Baker" Dr. Who. Probably the most popular, if not the longest time an actor played the Dr.

You know, I do think you're right about how Sci-Fi fans do take things to extremes. I, however, can honestly say I have never dressed in a Star Trek uniform. Never even owned one.

Do you remember the juror, I think it was during the OJ trial, that showed up to Jury Duty in a Next Generation Star Trek Uniform?

Koo-koo-koo (that's supposed to sound like a koo-koo clock)
Does anyone remember the original Battlestar Galactica, and how lame it was. Of course I still ate it up because it was Sci-Fi. Ever see the new Battlestar Galactica? One of the rare instances where the re-make was actually light years better than the original!
BSG was bad, right enough. But did you see the first season of the original Star Trek series? What was with Spock, shouting everything?

Oh, come one! Donnie and Marie!

They were so gosh-darned unnaturally perky! Made me want to drive a stake through their hearts!

Kidding.

Did I see the first season of Star Trek. Does a bear poo-poo in the woods?!?

Yeah, I remember Spock was quite a bit emotional, in both the second pilot (Where no Man Has Gone Before) and the first season. I guess they had not quite got all of his character traits completely established at that point.

Speaking of Trek!

I'm about to explode waiting for the next movie! The trailer for it has already been released and it looks way cool; it shows the Enterprise being constructed in space dock. Was supposed be out in December of this year; however, they moved it back to sometime in 2009. It's supposed to be a "re-boot" of Star Trek, meaning they are going to mess with some of the already (and very loosely) established Trek continuity. Star Trek has never been all that great with keeping its continuity in tact, unlike Star Wars. Lucas is a control freak when it comes to making sure all things Star Wars remains constant, with no major slip-ups or changes to already established stories.

Some of the casting choices for the new Trek movie have me scratching my head, though. I do like the idea of Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dean/Hot Fuzz) being in it; however, I don't know about him playing Scotty. And Winona Ryder as Amanda, Spock's mother? Amanda was never, as far as I know, a shoplifting kleptomaniac!

Still, it's Star Trek! I can't wait!! They could probably glue some paper towel roll tubes to a tin pie plate and film it, marketing it as a Star Trek movie, and I would eat it up at this point. It's been too long without some new Star Trek material. It was an official day of mourning at my house, when they announced the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise a few years back.

Donny and Marie??? Make it stop, please??? All I can say is, icky............................Oh and I LOVED the mouse on Ed Sullivan. I think his name was Topo Gigo?? He always asked Ed to kiss him goodnight, I remember. And if you want to know about child abuse, try being forced to watch Lawrence Welk with your mother--the AGONY!!!

Was that the problem? And all these years, I just thought he was constipated...

Another movie? Damn, some things just will not die. I may see it, but you can pretty much bet I won't be seeing it at the theater. The thing for me with Trek, is that it's just not believable anymore, no matter how entertaining it may be. It looks too much like a movie set. The lights are on, but nobody lives or works there. Compare Trek to Babylon 5, and you'll see what I mean.

Lawrence Welk!

I was trying to think of the name yesterday, when we started going on this trip down memory lane! My father used to like to watch that too, and I was forcibly made to watch it too. A good case to contact the Department of Children and Families, if you ask me; borderline child abuse.

Kidding.

I thought the bubble machine was pretty bitchin' too.

He also liked "Championship Wrestling" with Dusty Rhodes! Don't know how you could put the two together, L. Welk and Wrestling, but they used to come on back-to-back on Saturdays here in Jax.

Oh, and who could forget "Hee Haw?" Another show I was forced to endure.

Uncle, if you thought Babylon 5 was an updated show that was more relevant to today's society than Trek, then you would definitely dig Battlestar Galactica. There is really no black and white, good verses evil in this show; even the good guys have had to resort to questionable tactics in order to survive at times. People I know that cannot stand Sci-Fi absolutely love BSG. It is really, in my humble opinion, the smartest show on television right now.

Oh, and the new Trek is supposed to be a prequel of sorts; the first adventure of the classic Trek crew together. Someone is even supposed to play Capt. Pike, the captain of the Enterprise before Kirk. I've also heard, through rumor control, that Tom Cruise is supposed to be in it. I do hope that's all it is, though, a rumor. I think the rumor is flying around because J.J. Abrams is directing the new Trek; he did Mission Impossible 3 with Cruise.

I'm not a complete Cruse hater, though. I was pleasantly surprised when Tom Cruise played Lestat in "Interview with the Vampire." I was really PO'd when I first heard he would be in it, until I saw the movie. He was really quite surprisingly good. I think Anne Rice had the same opinion too, until she saw some of the clips of him as Lestat.
