My latest email to UCL:
Thank you for your email. According to the records on your website, my last payment on 2-29-08 was for $375 against an original loan amount of $300. Therefore, the principal has been overpaid and this account is now paid in full.
Last Payment Date: 02-29-2008
Last Payment Amount: $375.00
United Cash Loans is not licensed to operate in the state of Kentucky, nor are payday loans legal in this state. Therefore, this matter is closed.
Their response:
Thats not how the loan works, as explained in the email below, we will take this as a refusal of this offer, your account will now continue in collections for the full amount due of $570.00. The collections actions will take place immediately. Please read your contract, and all of the approval, confirmation, and account summary emails which explained the agreement from day one.

liz, my fellow Kentucky resident friend! You did great! Oh, it's going into collections for 570.00 now. Good luck to them on collecting on a debt that is illegal in the eyes of our state! More power to you, my friend! (Although pay day loans are legal in our state! Just internet pay day loans are not.)

Their 'offer' was a settlement of an additional $140 via MoneyGram (of course, no physical mailing address) or I had the option of calling them and giving them a debit/credit card number. NOT! The principal has been overpaid, and thanks to all of you, I know that is all I need to do!

They are nuts...KY laws prohibits internet pdls..why can they not wrap their pea brains around this...good for you...stick to your guns.

I also had dealings with Cash Transfer Center. Reloaned several times (my bad). Closed my account. They contacted my employer via email twice. I sent the cease and desist email as well as the copy of the Kentucky laws re: pdl lenders. Just for fun, I tried to login to their website just now, and I received this message: 'you do not have access to this site'. My guess is I am not finished with these folks, but at least now I know the laws.

CTC is evil ...pure evil  Cannr and some other members have had difficulty with them. You did revoke any wage assignment you may have signed??? They are well known for sending your payroll a wage assignment letter...I have also read where some members payroll departments have honored them.

I did revoke the wage assignment with them, but have not contacted my HR department about it. I work for a small non-profit in KY and am praying they don't send the wage assignment. I have heard nothing from CTC in the last few weeks...UCL is more my headache at the moment.
I will tell you to be on the look out, they sent one to Cannr's
I will tell you to be on the look out, they sent one to Cannr's payroll and several other members. UCL is a pain and are part of the worst pdl companies. Keep filing on them with the BBB and the KY AG..I finally got them off my back through the BBB...still waiting to hear from the KY AG on them.

I haven't contacted the BBB or the KY AG - although I said in my emails to them that I did. Looks like I have more work to do tomorrow. How did we ever get ourselves into this mess?? I am determined to fix it!

That felt good! I just filed a complaint with the BBB against United Cash Loans. The resolution I asked for was a refund of $465 in illegally collected interest against a loan of $300. Any one have any luck with refunds? Truth me told, I'll be happy to just to get them off my back!
liz, I'm glad you filed your complaint! Let me just tell you, fi
liz, I'm glad you filed your complaint! Let me just tell you, file complaints with the BBB, the FTC, and the Kentucky state AG. File your a$$ off! Regarding filing and requesting refunds - you asked if anyone has received refunds. I have. I got refunds from some of my pdls (all were overpaid, of course). I actually had the ones that refunded me resolved just through the BBB. By the time the AG got them, they had already been settled. Now, I can't promise you any refunds; however, there is always that hope. File with everyone you can think of. And, I'll tell you right now. The Kentucky AG will send letters to these pdl idiots over and over and over again. They start out mild and get harsher each time. The only way I got the friggin MTE related pdls off my a$$ was through the AG. I think they got really tired of dealing with me and them. They sent letters to the AG saying my account was closed, blah, blah, blah. The AG forwarded them to me. So, file, file, file! It will take some time (like months!) but you will start getting results. Also, I'm worried about CTC. They will not hesitate to send a wage assignment to your employer. That are sooooooooo evil. They did send one to my employer. And it was amazing! I know you revoked your wage assignment with them; however, so did I. Didn't bother them any. They sent it anyway. Unless you can intercept that letter (if you get the mail at your work), they might send it in and your payroll department/manager/boss/owner/whoever will get it. Honestly, they may even call (I swear I'm telling the truth because they did it to me) your workplace and just ask for your fax number. They will then fax the friggin wage assignment to your employer. So, just a little warning there for you. I would at least keep a copy of the wage assignment revoke letter handy in my desk at all times in case this does happen to you. What we did was write in big huge black magic marker "WE DO NOT HONOR WAGE ASSIGNMENTS" and faxed it back. Never heard another word from them again.
