Improvement in scores depends on how frequently your creditors report your payment behavior to the bureaus - i.e., if they don't report every single month, but perhaps only quarterly, it will take some time for your good payment history to be established.
Are we talking over a year's time here?

It's been well over a year since anything was more than a day or two late. 4 months since the latest round of student loans [10 of them] entered active repayment. Those are reported monthly by my lender. TU has come up 20 points in 4 months. EQ, +16, EX, 0. Any idea why EX hasn't budged?

Hmm...I'm not sure! I'm sure you're keeping an eye on the reports, and you'd know if there was anything on there keeping the score stagnant.
Maybe you could contact them and ask what's up?

I pull fresh reports and scores twice a week, through TrueCredit. The only derogatory on EQ and EX is that $14 collection from way back when. The CA on that won't even answer my mail, but I'm in the process of fixin' their little, red wagon. Nothing derogatory at all on TU.

Mornin' Sue! And here I thought I'd be the only regular surfin' the board first thing on Easter Sunday...
As to the issue at hand... The CA in question is sitting on a debt in my name that isn't mine. It's also [probably] been reaged. I've told them that, and disputed it 2-3 times... Keeps coming back verified. Sent them a pay for delete offer a couple months back. Nothing, not so much as a refusal or kiss-my-ass. A refusal, I could at least work with.
OK, if that's how we have to play it... They recieved a stronger version of JCEMT's validation letter last week. Five bucks says they won't validate. Probably just ingore that, too. I'm gonna give them until the end of the week, just to be nice. I'll dispute it with the CRAs one last time at that point. The second DV / intent to sue letter is already written, and sitting on my hard drive. Complaints to be filled with both state AG's offices and the FTC, too.
It seems pointless, I agree. But at this point, it's not the money or the tradeline, it's the principle of the thing. And yes, I will sue over a $14 account.
