Most of us here do not recommend taking out such loans. They really are nothing more than glorified payday loans, with high interest rates - but with the added "zinger" that they hold your car title until you pay them back. And if you run into a problem and don't pay them back, they take your car.

This is a risky situation to put yourself in. You stand to lose your mode of transportation if you run into hard times and can't pay them back. Not something I'd want to risk.

Ugh! Just out of curiousity, I googled car title loans in PA. I think flames came out of my ears. They do offer car title loans. DO NOT DO THIS. It's horrible. I have to admit that years ago, I did a car title loan. I paid a hell of a lot of money. Thank God they outlawed them in my state now.

I live in PA, too. I know all of us have been through the 'PDL Nightmare'. However....I don't really know anyone that has put their car title up for 'collateral', for a PDL. I would recommend NOT to. If you don't pay the loan back, I'm sure they WILL come get your car....they would have the titile, you know. Just like a lien, I would think.

yes, they acually put a lein on your title. i had one about 5 years ago, i paid and paid and paid. i only borrowed 500 but i'm sure they made triple their money off me. i finally got tired of it and told them to just pick up the car. all the sudden they wanted to do a settlement. finally got it paid off but will never do that again.

Yep....just any other 'lein holder'. You can't sell your OWN car, etc. or do anything with it because the PDL 'owns' your car until they are paid off. BASTOOPS..just curious. Do you STILL have your car???????/ Sounded like a nasty situation.

Naw it was an old clunker, i finally sold it when i got my title back. but after that experiance i vowed to never get a title loan again. i dont even know if they still operate like that or possible gotten worse, but i borrowed 500, my monthly payment was 165. that is the interest payment. you had to pay more or make double payments for anything to go to the principle. i know it was my fault and i agreed to the terms. but lesson learned.

WOW, BAS!! Gald to hear you could get it back. I've never been in that situation where I put my car title up for 'collateral', for a PDL. Gald a "lesson was learned." I would think that would be a bit scary if you couldn't get it back.

yeah it would be scary. fortunatly i didnt really need the car and thats the only reason i took a title loan out on it. wich is why after i got tired of paying i just told them to come and get it. but if it would have been a situation where it was my only vehicle i wouldnt have told them to come and get it. i'm glad i did in the long run though because once they realized i was done they offerd me a settlement and i was able to get my title back. i wouldnt recommend a title loan to to anyone.

Well, BAS..I know you told them to "come get the car." But...DID they actually show up to get it or did they just give you the Title back? I'm just curious how that worked.

no they didnt come and get it. they said ok you make 2 more payments, we wont charge any intrest. and you will be done. so i went ahead and took the offer. it wasnt worth it for them to pick it up, i'm sure when they do acually pickup a vehicle they take it to an auction and dont get very much money for it.

Many times when I have a delinquent account with small balance, or if the car's not worth picking up, we just chargeoff the account and hold the title.

At some point in the future if the customer wants to ever sell or trade-in that car, they will need the title, and that's when they'll call us. Then we work out a settlement to give them back their title.
