I don't think they can. That is a scare tactic, and a very cruel one. Don't worry about it. Who is your loan with? There is alot of information on this site about them threatening people with this. Also, just because you closed your account doesn't mean they can have you arrested. You have every right to close your account when you want to, as well as you have every right to block them from your accounts.

Please tell us what state you are in and the lender you are dealing with. Please do not worry about going to jail. This will not happen. If it did we would need much bigger jails.

Pay Day Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! want to take someone to jail!    for an illegal loan! I am so sorry for laughing but this company is crazy. As the other people have pointed out writing a "bad check" is a civil matter in some states. Even then you can go to the courts before your case comes up (I am not sure about SC)and pay the check. I am dealing with this company too and I live in NC where payday loans of any type are illegal.

You can not be criminally prosecuted for a internet payday loan
You can not be criminally prosecuted for a internet payday loan no matter what state you live in. So don't sweat it . You have nothing to worry about. However in some states with store front loans you can possibly be criminally prosecuted if you close your account or do stop payments.
