Derogatory Accounts with a "0" Balance

I know that when I paid off a derogatory account and the CA reported it as being paid in full, my credit rating jumped about 20 points.

BUT- I have a few accounts on my credit reports that show "derogatory" but have a "0" balance.. meaning they are open and reporting they are late.. but I dont owe anything.

So.. does the derogatory hurt my credit or not so much because I dont owe any $$$

I am going to dispute to get it off of there anyways. Just curious

Usually your account will show in a "derogatory" status for atleast a few years if you've ever made your payment over 30days late. Even if you've paid off your balance. Have you ever made any late payments on these accounts?
