When I got home from work, I checked my work email that shows any calls I missed. I had missed 6 calls from "Anonymous" in less than 11 minutes! WTH? Can they seriously do that? They didn't leave a message, but I'm pretty sure it's a pdl collection.

cdollar -

CAN they do it? Yes, they do it all the time.

Is it ILLEGAL? You betcha!

According to the fdcpa, no debt collector can "cause the telephone to ring or engage a person in conversation repeatedly". To do so is a violation of the FDCPA.

However, if you are dealing with an illegal payday lender (have you checked this out yet to see if they are?), then they won't abide by the FDCPA anyway.

Let us know if you know who is calling, or if a number showed up on your caller ID at all. We might be able to help you track them down and put a stop to that nonsense.

cdollar - I'd almost guarantee it's a payday lender calling you. If you're paying them off or already have them paid off, and you know they're illegal, just ignore them. They can't do anything to you.

Tweety - business must be bad at Rt. 66 - I've seen several reports of them calling people that borrowed from them years ago and trying to tell them they owe thousands on the measly little $200 loan they originally took out - and paid off! This is something new they've come up with, and they're being pretty persistent about it - but stick to your guns! They're illegal and they know it.
