Bank of America Stinks

They drained my savings account to cover some of the over drafts .
So I need to reverse all those charges and I have to wait for them to clear first.
My contact at the MD Commissioners office said that she could help me with that too.
I thought everything was cool. Now I gotta open an account somewhere else.

I went through that with BOA until I found the right branch manager. I am now back in good standing with them. You must keep trying until you get to the right person. I went crazy. The branch would freeze it and corporate wuold open it. I had it positive and they would not let me close it! Then it went back to negative. Finally someone at another branch told me to see a man at still another brancH. In two days I had a new account and was back as a customer. It is a matter of finding the right person. Don't give up!

this is why they said it wasnt closed.
When I first inquired about closing the account they said that it was 7 dollars in my account, they transfered the money and put it in my new account and told me to go to a branch and close it out.
I went to the branch, they told me that my account had 34 dollars in it and I said the other day it was 7 dollars, they said, when you put a fraud alert on an account then it rejected some pending transactions. SO we put the 34 dollars in the account, she told me the account would close on its own.
long story short, they transferred 7 dollars more than I had which put the account negative. and I guess it opened back up. I will find everything out on Monday when I start disputing all the charges put into my bank account. My contact at the MD Commissioner of Finance told me that the letters she sends to the PDL's will help me when I have to go to the bank and reverse most of the charges.
closing account
i had that same problem too. things were pending, money was coming in stuff like that. luckily thought, the account FINALLY closed before the week pdls were gonna take money.

That's the problem with trying to close the account if you've used your checkcard recently... sometimes items stay in a pending status and if they are returned back for a fraud alert, not sure why they even placed a fraud alert, they credit your account. I think the best bet is to watch your account closely for the first few days to make sure that nothing unexpected happens...

Here is another post I responded to on closing accounts that might help..
If you have no outstanding checks, or checkcard purchases, you may certainly close your account and have it coded for credits only when they close it. I would make sure that you have your direct deposit moved to another account at the time you close it. WHen you close an account it is very important to make sure all your items have cleared and that there are no "pending" checkcard purcahses and that the account is at an exact 0 balance. If the account even has a couple of cents in it the account will be in a "pending closed" status until the account is at 0.
Now... The reason they put the account closed and "credit" only is to make sure that the electronic items do not force the account back open. Credit only will just add another security level that no debit items clear the account.
If you haven't had your direct deposit moved to a new account yet you can close the account and have them mark it for credit only and then if the direct depoit comes in it will most likely post to your account. If that is the case I would make sure that you are in the banking center first minute they open on the day of your deposit to have them assist you with withdrawing the funds and making sure the account remains closed.
I know this was lengthy but sometimes you just need to know exactly what to ask them when you go in to the banking center.
The other truth is that they really don't need to know why you want to close the account to begin with.
One more note... when the ACH debits from the PDL companies are returned to them you will, or should, receive a notice from the bank that lists the items, similar to an overdraft notice, and tells you that the items were returned to the companies as unpaid and marked account closed.
If an account is closed, there should not be any charges.

One bit of good news is when I logged into my account this morning the money that was taken out of my savings was back in my account :)
Now I just disputed some of the other charges Ive been trying to get back on the phone with claims but at this time of day the wait time is close to 30 minutes each. They reversed most of them already, I guess maybe someone noticed the mistake after I called thme 25 times on Friday. Dont know, but nonetheless, to see that money back this morning was wonderful :)

I belong to Bank of America too. I have had nothing but good experiences with them. As soon as something went wrong, I called them. They actually stopped payment on three ACH's, waived the fees for stop payment and three times credited my account for overdrafts. I called them as soon as something went wrong, not saying that you didn't. They are helpful if you get the right person. I spoke with a customer service rep and she said that there was nothing she could do for me. I requested to talk to a supervisor and he took care of everything for me. Maybe talk to a supervisor if something happens to you again. These pdl people are ruthless.
Debit/Charge Card Stopage while on trip
Twice now, even after telling the fraud alert yoyo's in advance where and when I was traveling, my debit card was placed on hold because of aleged fraud usage. What a pain in the **** to get it turned back on! Telephone is near impossible. My wife had to see the branch manager to get it reinstated. Is it possible to tell them to under NO condition, block my card? I did change my intended itinerary to where I said I was going. Are we locked into the original plan? Sheeeesch ! Oh yes, they sent me many emails
alerting me to the blockage. I was 1000 miles away from my pc, a lotta good that did.
They did finally call home and my wife resolved the problem.
