It's better to reach two minutes late than two minutes early

To drive at such a speed on the road is simply to court disaster. Thus I wanted to convey this message on the board that it’s better to reach two minutes late rather than to reach two minutes earlier.

Ben,
It's so unfortunate that you had to witness, firsthand, the worst of a tragedy brought on by a fairly common mistake. Speed kills, and I wish more people knew that.
It's also very unfortunate that it can take such a disastorous event to teach a lesson. I got in car with a drunk driver once and we ended up getting into an accident as a result of his intoxication. I was left with a permanent scar under my lip and my parent's disappointment. I certainly learned a lesson from the experience, but I wish I hadn't learned it that way. I could have died, or worse, the driver of the car I was in could've killed another motorist.
They say, "better late than never." And although being late can lead to one being reprimanded by a boss, or family member, or anyone else they were going to see...it's truly better to make it late than arrive in an ambulance or coffin.
Ben, I'm sorry that you had to see such a horrible accident. :(

Hey Lindsey
I also felt dead that day when I saw those bodies littered with blood and those internal parts lying around. Some on the middle of the road and some between the spaces in the bus. I just can't eat food if I think about it.
Lindsey, I am so sorry that you had to meet with an accident due to the driver's negligence. You can do skin grafting on that scar. Consult a plastic surgeon for it. Don't leave these types of things remind you of the past everyday.
I see guys driving so fast and taking life so casually. They booze and fag while driving for style and impressing the girls. Is that life really doing good to them!! It's a pity

The scar is small enough that I can go on without correcting it. I've learned to move and think of that accident as a "learning experience." It was very stupid. The sad thing was that they guy who was driving, (my boyfriend at the time and I axed him soon after) thought the whole thing was funny.
Putting lives in danger is not fun or funny. Guys have tried to impress me with their "supped up" cars and I just think about how incredibly stupid they are. I don't buy cars to race, I buy them to get to destinations and safely. If someone tries to show off their "performance car" I say, "So, tell me: why exactly did you waste your money on that?"
Throughout my years in high school, a few kids lost their lives as the result of careless driving and putting things in their body that don't belong (i.e. drugs and alcohol). Flirting with death isn't fun and if you get a rush from it, then obviously life isn't so precious to you. I'm very grateful to be alive. People need to take it slow and just enjoy life while they're here. It really IS a pity. What has ALWAYS impressed me is safety and concern. If a guy was adament about driving the speed limit and getting me home on time, I'd give him a second date. If he was careless, I never spoke to him again.
Ben, the degree of what you saw is horrific and I'm so sorry you had to see all of that. I always used to think it would be cool to do forensics and such, but seeing people from the inside out is...unappealing. I hope that that sight didn't scar your mind too much...it's really sad that you had to see that and I hope that soon you are able to forget the sight of it all...

I agree with the both of you. When my supervisor asks why i am late, I respond with "just be thankful that I am here."
I commute 1 hr each way to go to work and I have seen some accidents. None as horrific as Ben has witnessed, but tragic nonetheless. Right after school started there were two teenagers 15 and 16 killed by a drunk driver on their way home from school. It is very devastating to see the increase in fatalities on the road, because of the way people drive (speeding and drunk).
You would think that seeing these things would stop these people from driving like maniacs, but they think it would never happen to them.
My daughter will begin learning to drive in 5 years and I am already a nervous wreck.

They've talked of making a thing on cars where you have to breath into a breathylizer type thing before you can drive. They should make that mandatory for anyone that has a bad rep. with alcohol.
I'm not old enough to drink yet...legally...but when I AM, I will always have a designated driver with me anywhere I plan to drink. I just wish more people would follow this advice. My very immature uncle got his license taken away for 4 months for DUI. I hope that teaches him a lesson

Ben I'm so sorry you had to see that. I can't imagine seeing something like that. If some people would drive a little slower and pay more attention on the road casulties like that wouldn't happen. My brother is one of the speed demons on the road. I told my husband when I was pregnant that I would never get in the car with my brother again if he's behind the wheel. And, I haven't.

Lindsey,
Hopefully your uncle is taught a lesson. However there are people out there with multiple DUI's and still continue to drink and drive. We can only hope and pray that soon these people will completely be taken off the road!

Well accidents are very crazy these days I witnessed a few in my life some real tragic but the most worse accident that i seen was a big mack truck flipped over and it caught on fire the person did die but iI didn't see the body!

Just guess that if a road accident can be so fatal, how the rescue team manages the airplane and the train accidents. Oh my god!! Can't even think about it.
If we are talking about deaths, see the wars where the soldiers see their enemies and friends cut into pieces. Shocking and painful!!

You are right Ben...SPEED KILLS and for what...to get there a few minutes earlier? My cousin was in a car accident when she was 15 and the girl driving was going 80 over bumps on a side road for fun. They yelled at her to stop but she kept goofing off and my cousins friends in the back seat were twin sisters and one of them died after the driver drove into a tree. My cousin was hurt badly but fortunetly recovered after surgeries on her knee. And you hear stories like that all the time because of speed. It was really sad. That was over 10 years ago.
