I stopped Payment on both accounts yesterday, and had them reverse the charges for both, in the end I still payed 1140 for a $400.00 pdl and $850.00 for a $350.00 pdl. I also filled complaints with the better business bureau on these. What other steps should I take. They called me this am and told me they were going to take the money out of my account anyway. What steps should I take next

Did you put stop payments on particular check numbers or on ACH's from your account? The bad thing about these PDL companies is, if there's a stop payment on the account, they'll try different ways to get their money (if you stopped an ACH, they'll use the check # you gave them, etc); there's people here who are more knowledgable than I who can help you w/ what the companies might try.

I had them stop payment on the company themselves. No check numbers

At this point, I can't advocate enough closing your bank account and having it specified as 'deposit only'. You have already given so much money to these people, and I'm afraid doing ACH stops by their company name on them will not stop them. They can and more than likely will try to get by paper or electronic check, or try debiting your account under a different name- PDLs seems to have a wealth of aliases. One of the online lenders I used to have an internet PDL out with would debit my account under a different name every time, it seemed.

If you do close your account, please be sure to read the "sticky" about that process at the top of the forum before proceeding.

I agree with the advice to close your bank account immediately. But first talk face to face with the branch manager of your credit union and read the sticky at the top of the page. I was terrified about closing my bank account, but it was the best advice I have received on this board and literally saved me from losing my apartment due to PDL's. Changing account #'s, stop payments, won't be enough. The new account # can be linked to the old account #, and as stated earlier, stop pays are only temporary and these companies have ways of getting around this by using different names, different dollar amounts, etc. You need to look into closing your account with your branch manager, but be sure to read the sticky at the top of the board on that topic. Find another bank to open an account at and NEVER GIVE THAT INFORMATION TO ANYONE. I would consider opening two different accounts at two different institutions - just in case. I would also file complaints with your state's Dept of Banking or it's equivalent (they go by different names sometimes) ASAP.
