Well I have a rather interesting situation. As you know I have had success in dealing with collectors and fixing the credit report. I have researched the laws of this state in-depth and have constructed my own letters. Well my sister wanted some help so I helped her and got several things removed from her credit. Now here is where things start to get interesting:

I have started to get calls from friends of my sister, who heard what I did for her and want me to help them. They have offered to pay me. Several people have expressed an interest in this and have remarked that I should offer this as a ‘consulting service’ for consumers in my area.

I admit to actually considering it. When I went to court initially on my LVNV case the judge remarked this was the –first- time he has ever heard of a consumer suing a CA for violation of their rights. Almost every person I have talked to has also told me they never even heard of our laws regarding their rights! I tell these people that they can do this all themselves by research, but I have been told they would rather not take the time and would rather PAY someone to do it for them.

Would it be totally unethical to charge people for this service? I enjoy helping out here and have tried to tell people in town they could do it themselves but as I said before, they would rather pay for the help then take the time to do all the research (I admit, I have like hundreds of hours of reading and researching, likely even more.)

What do you guys think?

I would check the laws in your county and state. I know here, you have to be certified, licensed, etc., unless you are with a church affiliation to counsel or consult, at least in my experiences.

Why not have them come to the site-most of the info has already been researched and others here can tell them step by step how to do this--just a thought.

Let me know what you find out regarding this, as I am not sure of the correct answer.

If I was certified in my area, etc., I would consider this also..Karen :D

I have looked it up...curiously you don't have to hold a licence or even a bond, if you don't charge for services before they are rendered. If you are paid before you do any work, then you must have these bonds and licensing.

I can also register as a credit service organization, specializing in credit repair. Registration is as simple as making a 'statement' about your services and having it registered with the secretary of state. Thats all.

I wouldn't be offering legal advice at all, just help on credit repair.

I agree but goldenbast still has very feeble exuses of not paying debt owed..and is prob why credit score is so bad and rep is as bad as well

Well..hmm how do you even come up with this drivel? What excuses would those be? Ah, the debt isn't mine? Is that it? Or how about that the amount they are saying is owed is not what is actually owed yeah? No? Or how about that I refuse to pay anything that has absolutely NO supporting documentation...they say I owe money yet they have not one shred of paper that states this? And what about my rep? Actually I have great rep....just look, a CA is paying ME a grand so that I won't continue with my suit because they know perfectly well they know I am right and they are wrong...

So, I have no idea where you would get such info....voices in your head? You know they have pills for that....

Riiiight...well guest you must not read very well..hooked on phonics works wonders. Yes, I said I had many little things listed on my report. And guess what...I am paying some...I am paying off those that properly validated the debt. Ohhh concept...wow..I don't just blindly pay people just because they say I owe em. I have the legal right to demand validation. If they are collecting legally they have no problem providing the documentation. I simply contest those who have illegal interest rates and charges and things that I know to be plain wrong. Wow, what a concept.

I hate to break it to you, but I meet my obligations and I have not one iota of guilt because I am acting in full legal capacity.

Wonder why a CA is paying ME $1000 to stop the lawsuit..because I am in the right and they know it. So do us all here a favor and go read the fdcpa and FCRA. You might learn something.
