I just got a call from someone claiming to be a lawyer who wanted to check with me before he sent the paperwork up the Courthouse for garnishment of wages. I asked who he worked for and he said Global Financial. I asked what this was in reference to and he said a loan I had with CashNet in the amount of $495!. I have been the victim of identity theft and told him that I had closed my accounts because of these types of calls, and I dont owe anything to these people. I asked him to verify the loan in writing and of course he said they didnt do that because this is an internet loan company and they only deal with electronic funds. He told me to settle this loan I needed to wire the funds directly to the company or he would immediately send the paperwork to the court and they would automatically grant a garnishment. I have checked all over the internet to see if I could verify his being a real lawyer and havent found anything. I dont know of any lawyer that works at the payday company two days a week! Is this possible? The company is Global, CashNet or USACASH the number he gave me to contact him is the same as the payday loan company: 800-654-7444 ext 849, payments were to be made to Global, code city USACASH, state DE, and the account number is my soc (like I want that being wired all over the place after already being the victim of identity theft)attn. Stewart Davis. Is there any way to find out if this guy really is a lawyer or if he is just another clown from the payday loan company? It just sounds too weird for me!

Hi pykritner

Welcome to the forums. You don't need to wire any money until you know that it is a valid debt in your name. Since you have already been a victim of identity theft, the social security number cannot be related for recovering money from you.

After being an identity theft, you might have contacted the social security department in your state and got a new SSN#. You will have to pay those debts only that are related to the new SSN# and not the ones with your old SSN#.

After being a victim of identity theft, you must have contacted the fraud department of the three bureaus and got the relevant papers. These papers will prove that you are not required to pay the said debt.

And lastly, as per the fdcpa law, all companies that are collecting debts from the consumers are required to provide complete details of the accounts. Without the debt being validated, you can legally refuse to pay it and also get negative information removed from your credit file.

Please do not worry about this call from the lawyer. If they keep calling you, use your consumer rights and file complaints at the FTC, BBB and the local attorney office.

Regards
Roxette

Hey, I wonder if this is the same group that called me today. I got a call from a John Corsen from 800-4324271 extension 154 from Global Investment Group. Yeah, I have already been scammed by CreditOne Financial this year and when I made the call, his was exactly the same phone system as them. They took for about $800. Yeah I spoke to him for a minute and he said are you still looking for a loan. No I'm not. I said I'm sure that he would want money up front. He said no maybe not; yeah right. I got so frustated and disgusted that I hung up.

So be on the lookout.....
