I am in the process of doing either one.. I have done lost of research and have both and good reasons to do both.. any suggestions? Comments? What did you end up doing? What company did you use? Any help for suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks!

Hello grlnew and welcome to the forum! If I were you I would take advantage of that free consultation as Kashzan suggested. I can tell you a little about my experience with a CCCS (Consumer credit counseling Service). I was fortunate enough to find one which was non-profit. I can't say enough about how much they helped me, it was a very good and successful experience for me, but that was quite a number of years ago. Good luck!

We have been using Sifxpert and I have sung his praises enough that I have been accused of working for him. I swear I do not.

We started the program in September or October of last year and will be done soon.

I would recommend him. Just make sure, if you don't use him, that you do use someone who does NOT use your first few months' money for fees; you have to have that for settling. Also, make sure their fee structure is fair. Also, don't use anyone that pressures you to sign up with them.

Keep reading things on here and you'll get a feel for what you should look for yourself. This site is a great resource.

Whatever you decide to do make sure you do your research on the company. I personally feel that every situation is different and what might work for one person, does not always work for another.

I went with a debt settlement company and for me it did not work. The company did not do anything for me and I ended up in court with two of my credit cards. This forced me into finally realizing that no one can help me better than myself. So I ended up calling the companies myself and settling the matters out of court myself.

Good luck and let us know how things work out.

What creditors did not want to settle.. and decided to sue you instead.. i hear postives on both.. i have done some research.. and i am thinking of working with debt regret.. has anyone worked with the Oak View Law group that this site suggests? Thanks for all your help..

I did some checking on Sifxpert and the bbb doesn't look good.. but you had a good experiences? Were they able to settle all your debts? What about the tax consequences? Did it hurt you when you filed your taxes?

Thanks everyone for all your advise!!
