Geneva Roth Ventures ACH troubles.

I was in a bad way with the payday loans a few years back and have been paid in full on all of them for the last 3 years, closed that bank account and changed banks altogether. Paid in full, or so I thought...
This morning when checking my bank account online, I saw an ACH debit today from Geneva Roth Ventures for $340. I have contacted Geneva Roth (thanks to some helpful info on your site!) and they told me that they would email me a copy of my signed loan docs which I am still waiting on (shocking, I know) and they also said that if I can produce a bank statement from 6/04 showing that the money was never deposited, they will fully refund the money. Trouble is, as I said, I closed that account in 7/05 and when I called the bank today they said that all records are purged after 6 months of the account being closed. I am still working with them on this. I have also called my current bank and let them know the situation and they are assisting me in filing a claim.
I am wondering how they got their hands on my new account information (this account has been open since 10/05) and am wondering, if I do infact owe them money, why it's taken them this long to take the money out.
I live in MD and have just learned today that PDL's are illegal here. What exactly does this mean? Also, in reading through the boards here I have seen some say that Geneva Roth Ventures are also an illegal company. Is this true, and if so...what does that mean for me?
I am 98% SURE that I paid this off years ago and would like to get this taken care of ASAP. I know what it's like to deal with these companies and I don't want to get sucked back into that again...
Any help/advice is MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Honestly, it was about 2 months ago when I applied and I don't remember. I would like to think, though, after all that I had been through with PDL's in the past that a credit card asking for my bank account info would have set off a red flag. I've had the card for 2 months now and have had a great experience with them so far. I can't think of where else GRV may have gotten my info from.
I have already contacted my bank to file a fraud claim. They said that since the transaction is still pending, they can't do anything but as soon as it posts they will go into action. Unfortunately, "pending" doesn't mean anything when the money was still taken out of my account. They have also put a stop payment on the debit in hopes to stop it before it actually posts. She did warn me, however, that if it is stopped in time they might try again under a different name.

No, as I said above...I've had the card for 2 months and have had no problems with them at all.
Thanks for looking into that.
